Welcome back to the Maldives Surf Report brought to you by World Surfaris and curated by Richard Kotch at Hudhuranfushi. At the beginning of each month during the winter surf season Rich will update swell conditions as well as bring you the best photos.

Following text and photos by Richard Kotch:

March in the Maldives is a time of light winds and clear skies. It is also a time of relaxed lineups with an average crowd of around five surfers in the water each day, all sharing the crystal clear water with pods of inquisitive dolphins.

Sure, the waves aren’t big but jeez they are fun. Just perfect little runners peeling down the point over a forgiving reef in front of the Lohis deck with your friends watching on! What’s not to love?

It’s good to be back at Hudhuranfushi Resort and documenting the swell. Here’s a selection of photos by Ali and I from the last two weeks.

Hope to see you soon!

Rich

PS: April has started with more great waves and a promising forecast.

The view from the deck...

...and the view from the water...

...and finally, the view from under the water

Gotta be toonafish, too small for a dolphin.

I'm thinking a GT. Sick looking waves though, and water vis is amazing compared to our east coast chocolate froth machine.

Managed to talk the missus into a week there for the honeymoon in March 2008.
There were 2 foot waves most days & a 3-4ft swell mid week. Pretty buttery gutless waves though generally. There are worse places to chill out at sunset than that deck.

I'm calling GT too.

That place is on the shortlist for a wife friendly resort with the option of surfing.

My wife and I spent 10 days there pre kids - feels like 10,000 years ago, it was amazing, take a good fish and you want get bored surfing down the point as fast as you can, sleeping under a palm tree, surfing some more, eat drink repeat...went in April 2 to 5 ft, mostly 3ft (head high)

how's the price, availibility and quality of weed in the maldives, for the non-drinkers?
