Magic hour over Rincon - video
You may not have surfed Rincon before but you've seen this angle. In 2016 who hasn't enjoyed the aerial view over every name break in the Western world?
What makes this clip different is what makes good surf photography stand out - great lighting. Our hard working pilot has set the alarm and parked himself on the cold boulders before the sun has risen in the east.
The dropins are horrendous, the style on some surfers questionable, but the lighting - especially in the first wave - is sublime.

Drop-ins, horrendous!! Blimey, some really taking that to extremes there.
I don't like the overhead look from drones, all perspective on wave height and shape are lost.
But apart from that, damn fine waves.
Super fun waves if you could have it with s few guys.
Surprised no one was punched out
Cmon Kelly get 100 wave pools goin
That made me angry just watching that.how do they justify those shocking dropins?
They seem to look over they're shoulder, somehow weigh up if they're gonna keep going or not. Is it nah I'm not getting off,I'm a better surfer,or nah I don't know this guy,or nah I'm bigger than he is and be able to take him in a blue.
Didn't notice any questionable styles either, just regular surfers..
Grew up surfing that wave and the crowds have never changed (I'm 52). There are occasions (far and few between) where you can get an early morning or afternoon session on a weekday where the crowd is not too challenging.
I agree with batfink, drone footage is far too high. They need to fly those things just over the lip line, in front of the shoulder to bring some integrity to the wave size.
Steve, a mate of mine is from Santa Cruz and he reckons to get away from the crowds he'd surf it on a full moon. You ever done that? My younger bro used to surf the Noosa points on a full moon but but my shocking eyesight and fear of what lurks beneath negated that for me.
As for the clip, I'm getting a bit drone weary too but Rincon is a beautiful wave all the same. I thought the standard of surfing was reasonably high but the blatant drop-ins anger me too. FFS, rule #1 of surfing, don't bloody drop in- simple.
Hey Zenagain (?)
Great thought, as Rincon is mainly made up of shallow cobble stones and I doubt anything too terrifying would come in that shallow, but I would still be a bit nervous. Closest I ever came was body surfing moon-lit shore-breaks with some naked women back in high school. LOL!
Those drop-ins are hard to avoid at such popular breaks, probably similar to Burleigh or Snapper I would imagine. That video of Dane at Sandspit in Santa Barbara says it all. I don't believe I have ever seen Dane get pissed, but that clown nearly chopped him in two. Crazy stuff.
Rincon was an occasional treat if we had the patience and crowds were moderate. Otherwise Ventura and Oxnard have some of the best beach breaks around with lonely A frames to choose from for you and your mates. 5th Street, Hollywood by the Sea, Silver Strand, Arnold's. Just got to be willing to go off the beaten path!
Cheers!
Every politician not representing sustainable population party would get a warm glow from watching this video (and all the recent snapper rocks, sunshine coast, northern NSW videos) then describe how it demonstrated sharing, inclusiveness, tolerance and acceptance. Anyone who isn't happy with even more crowded surf is a xenophobic racist!
Looks like a nice fun wave, nicely shot.
