The Christmas Day forecasts are in and here's hoping some of your asked for a bit more foam in those new sticks. You're going to need it...

The East Coast is currently under the influence of a small-to-mid south swell. Not the ideal scenario for the crew on the Sunshine and Gold Coasts but the good news is that the trades will kick up across the southern Coral Sea later this week, providing a peaky east swell for Christmas Day in the 2-3ft range. Get in early before the onshores crop up.

There'll be around 3 feet of south swell on offer for those who live between the NSW Central Coast and the South Coast, taking in Newcastle, Sydney and the Gong. Clearly they ain't been misbehavin' cos the local winds look like being light and variable in the morning. Check for updates.

Christmas Day east of Melbourne will see 5-6 feet of swell with developing SSE winds. The open beaches will be hit and miss, but at least it will be warm. The surf west of Melbourne will be just 2-3 feet - perfect for a full-figured fish. Winds should be lighter for the early sesh, so aim for a dawny and battle it out with the kids.

Over in South Australia the Victor Harbor region will have average 2-3 feet waves with onshore SE winds, while the Mid Coast will barely scrape together 1 foot of swell. Hey, at least it will be offshore.

Crossing the Nullabor, Margaret River will have 2 feet of swell with a light SE wind blowing, while the Perthlings oughta find something else to do - the Metro beaches will be near enough flat. Geraldton in the north will dish up enough to float most boats - 2 feet of swell with SSE winds.

And Taswegians can feel good about an early Christmas paddle too. The South Arm will have fun waves with morning offshores and 2-3 feet of SW groundswell on offer. On the other hand, Tasmania's East Coast will see a smaller combo of refracted S swell and NE windswell across the open beaches.

All in all it's not a bad forecast for Christmas Day - everywhere except Perth should have something on offer. And hopefully the fat fella in the red suit tops up everyones stockings with a few extra feet of swell.

Here's cheers...
