The Daily Good News

Glad to hear you're ok Supa. I've inherited AF from my mum. 52 now, started showing up about 5 years ago. Over that time I've slowly worked out what the triggers were and changed my habits accordingly. Dehydration is definitely a key trigger for me. Going for an early with just a cup of coffee in my system was my usual routine, but now I make sure I have a good chug of water and a little bit of food beforehand. Coffee too, is my one remaining vice. I still have one full strength in the morning. Then I'll have 2 or 3 decaf through the rest of the day. The Vittoria decaf is good, I can barely tell the difference taste wise. Instant coffee is poison to me, moccona being the worst.

Moccona make the best curing and pickle jars though :) especially the extra large ones.

Scary stuff Supafreak. Glad you're still with us.
Makes you appreciate how quickly things can go pear shaped with our health and/or life, especially when you least expect it..

God yes.
I injured back almost 2 weeks ago and it's still rooted.
Will have to sit this next swell out.
it's painful to sit, painful to stand, painful to lie down.
Psychologically, it's a punish to be crippled and not to be able to do the things you love to do.

Yes agreed , I’m still in hospital and all I could think about yesterday is that I might miss this swell. Then the mind starts projecting to Indo in May June July and worrying about having one of these episodes up in mentawi . Ive been invited to a private camp and I’m really looking forward to it with max 10 people. I’m counting my blessings and all , just wish the head would shut up .

Had it assessed freeride? Any idea what the issue is?

I've been to a couple of chiros.
definitely an impinged nerve, probably from a disc injury.

I had back issues and found this routine really helped....
https://m.

Bummer, I feel your pain. Hopefully it heals up quickly. Back program ;)

I wouldn't start doing exercises to fix you disc problems without seeing a professional. Not all herniations are the same. I had surgery in January (couldn't really walk and had muscle wasting in leg) Possibly exacerbated by following an online recommendation to do "foundation training". definitely don't continue if the exercise doesn't feel right for you. You're right freeride, it is a punish not being able to do what you love. I'm just starting to surf again, albeit not to the standard I'd like. Still nice to be back in the water...

Who diagnosed you flow and how long after the injury did you have surgery?

Have had a MRI on your Back Freeride ?

no

You must .

Orthopedic specialist at North shore private FR. 3 weeks after injury. Tried cortisone too which helped for a few hours. The rationale was that it was a very big herniation and if left it could develop into footdrop. Also I had to get back to work. I was 6 weeks off work. I lost 10 kilos in that 3 weeks from injury. And I'm usually 66kg. Hopefully surgery isn't needed. I never thought I'd have surgery on my back. Always a last option but I think it was good for me. My brother is an orthop too so it was a colleague of his.

fark.
how did you do it?

Strange thing is that I didn't have 1 big incident. My lower back had felt tight for a few months. In an attempt to remedy this I did these forward flexions to strengthen my back. I think that just added to to problem. Then the night before I couldnt walk I sat in one of those massage chairs that vibrate. It was feeling really tight.
Also a few months before that I was helping a friend move a fridge down a flight of stairs. I don't think my 49 year old back appreciated that.
Anyway take it easy. From everything I've read and experienced, walking seems to be the safest thing to do for bad backs and it feels good. Try not to sit much either. Surgery usually isn't needed.

20+ years of building, i feel your pain , had bulging discs in lower back caused severe sciatica around 12-13 years ago , still have flare ups occasionally, its fucked

I've had MRI scans on my bulging discs .
My injury started when I tried to pull a closeout floater on a very shallow 'sand' shorey when I was 26yo (now 52). The bank went totally dry and I landed on my tailbone trying to flick my board away, didn't wanted to deal with the fins and fibreglass. Bad move.
Only one other person on the beach at the time and my injury went unnoticed . The shorey washed me onto a steep bank off the beach and I just lay there not able to feel anything from waist down. For 10 minutes I was in shock thinking I'd just paralysed myself.
And then , my toes started to tingle , and fark was I stoked about that ,,and I gradually stood up. Took about half an hour to get back to my car and I remember it was literally baby steps the whole way. The steep sandy embankments were the hardest obstacles.
Working offshore on boats was probably not the best option for getting over crushed discs but the back muscles gain so from such work it certainly helped to offset the pain and discomfort.
It still flares up though , and ironically after periods of low activity.

Booked appointment with cardiologist who is on holidays, 24th January , yeah I can get 62 days a year leave with carers pension and hopefully going for 6 weeks starting end of May . Was tempted to go surfing this swell but every now and then I’m feeling light headed and not really full of energy so as doctors told me not to over do things on the exercise front I’ve resorted to watching. Just doing some long walks . It’s a horrible feeling when your hearts doing 220 so until I see the cardiologist I’m taking it easy .

New doggo update.
The young fella has settled in really well. His first time on the beach was hilarious, he couldn't work out the sand under foot, and was scared by the small shorey. Funny to watch him play with Miles, the older dog. He has quickly worked out the toys Miles likes, and the young fella keeps running past and pushing said toy in the old boy's face to get a response. Things were a bit willing early on as the hierarchy got sorted out but now they are besties. The old fella sleeps well, knackered after all the carry on throughout the day. So all good so far.

Best post of the day for what I've seen so far.
Cool looking mutt Blackers- Staffy Kelpie X?
Mixed breeds here in Japan are now called 'hybrids' to remove the stigma of not having a pedigree dog. Gotta love the Jappies sometimes.

He is a Staffie Jack x Zen. From behind when walking he looks pure Jack Russell but the colouration and ears make him look more like a kelpie. He is sweet natured, intelligent and eager to please but a little naughty with an old pair of boots, thongs and one old doggie bed shredded to date. Hybrid sounds better than mongrel I guess.

Awww... what a sweet looking hybrid Shorey.

Nice one Shorey, details?

Beagle x cavalier, have done the rescue thing a couple times previously but this one arrived when my wife walked past him in a shop. He was apparently sitting up the back all shy and quiet away from the noisy ones, and my wife fell in love with him. Had a big head for his body when he was little. Actually this is starting to sound a lot like the way my wife met me haha

Ah mate, sometimes they choose you, all dogs need a good home. Looks a happy chap.

Nice blackers and shoredump
I've seen a few Jack Russel x staffy dogs and a lot of them look a lot like Kelpies .

Frank is gay too

Complete distain shown by puss, gotta love that.

haha how are the other dogs going to know he's gay in that collar. I think he's trying to tell you something . Maybe something in leather , with a few studs.

Classic Zen , but wouldn't it send a signal to anyone else walking their dogs in the park as well.
Imagine him rocking that outfit at somewhere like Byron Bay. He'd probably clear half the beach on sight.

Hmmm... never thought of that.
He does look like a bit of narc come to think of it. Albeit a gay narc.

Time to get him the cowboy outfit Zen.

Gotta love dogs...

That's a very noble looking dog CMC- is it a Vizsla or something along those lines?
Blackers, I was thinking of a hard had and a faded denim shirt with the sleeves cut off.

Zen he's a 16month old Ridgeback.
Just starting to find his voice
Had one previously for 12 years, great dogs, very loyal and affectionate and quite chilled but will let you know if your not welcome into their domain.

There you go. Ridgy's are beautiful dogs. Bet he's a bit of a head turner.

Being in Sydney he stands out a bit as we're surrounded by all sorts of oodles.
Mind you a good conversation starter with other dog owners :-))

Handsome dog cmc. Best keep him away from any chocolate labs in hard hats.

Ha Ha.. lucky he's in Japan
Dedicated to good news ....
