Murder of Bali police man.

Don't know if anyone has been following this story, but I've got a feeling its going to be another case where we may never find out the truth but everyone will have an opinion.

All seems very fishy.

One minute the media reports she is to drunk to remember, next minute she had only a few beers.

Self defence?....more than 40 wounds? Drugs involved in some way? who knows?

Could even throw a conspiracy theory in the mix....if they were really to drunk to remember great case to help get support from Indo public that Indonesia does need a ban on alcohol.

Wow interesting development.

Another area that confuses me is the media over the last few days have been reporting the max she (now he) could get is 15 years jail, when the reality is under Indonesian law i believe he could get a much longer sentence and there is even quite a number of statutory provisions a court could and often does give the death penalty for murder. (normally premeditated) but it doesn't exactly sound like self defence and it was a cop that died.

First thing id be doing if i was this guy is cutting those dreads off and taking up Islam.

To my knowledge the cop was Hindu, and the alleged crime was committed on a majority (90%) Hindu Island, albeit in a majority Islamic country.
How much is religion bought into context in this situation in the courts?

sypkan's picture
sypkan's picture
sypkan commented Tuesday, 23 Aug 2016 at 1:05pm

look at the Michelle Leslie case, ecstasy pills on the hindu island, converted to Islam, wore headscarf to court, played the pious game in jail. was very respectful (ie didn't carry on like the corbys) got a light sentence and was back in oz pretty much straight after sentencing (and was very very quiet back in oz I might add)

it probably depends a lot where the key judges are from, often they'll be a mix with Javanese, but following any religion, and appearing respectful of any religion goes a long long way in indo. boozy arrogant ozzies and/or poms don't portray well in the islands

you're probably taking it a step too far tonybarber, but the other stuff certainly wouldn't hurt. he could probably keep the dreads and do the rest rather than just cut the dreads, indos seem to like dreads, but loose the byron beach party look

indo-dreaming's picture
indo-dreaming's picture
indo-dreaming commented Tuesday, 23 Aug 2016 at 3:23pm

I wasn't 100% serious on the converting to Islam thing, but if it dragged on then maybe it could be worth it, just bring it on slowly though.

I agree with Sypkan seemed to work for Michelle but i think she did come out and say once home that she paid some big bribes to get off also.

Not sure on dreads and Indonesian liking them, maybe the people we often met through surfing, but not so sure about Indonesian public in general, i think the dreads would bring a stereotype of Bob Marley and drugs.

Also seems public Influence can make or break in Indonesia, for example the unfortunately named Mary Jane from Phillipines who is on death row, she has huge support in the Indonesian public that perhaps she is innocent and so far she has avoided death...I think this is because lots of Indonesians can relate to her as she is just an ordinary Asian girl.

I think you would have more chance if people can relate to you (religion) or at least not calling for your death because you are a freak.

I guess end of the day you would expect he is pretty screwed no matter what. especially seeing it was a cop.

So Taylor has confessed to assaulting the policeman what is more astounding it that
"Mr Haposan said on Friday Ms Connor received a phone call from a friend in Australia, who said there was a problem.

He said they then both took a scooter somewhere in Jimbaran to burn the clothes they had been wearing on the night of the murder.

They then went to the Australian Consulate in Bali where they were apprehended by police.".

Why would an innocent person try to conceal evidence?

Where does the actions after the altercation leave Sarah Connor despite the confession? I doubt the actions after the altercation would be seen favourably by indonesian law enforcement Ms Connor should be trying to distancing herself from her DJ boyfriend as much as possible.

"It was Sara who cut [them] up. The intention was to get rid of evidence," he said."

Did Sara Conner confess to this? The cut up cards seems a little convenient to prosecutors surely theres not some sort of fix on.

But just like Aussie cops, not all cops are corrupt either, I've got Indo police friends and i know some really despise and hate corruption in the police force and Indonesia society.

Although that said Indonesians often say one thing and do the other, so they are probably just telling me they hate corruption and most likely partake in it.

Anyway corruption generally favours those who are guilty, not those that are innocent...when you are guilty it helps you save your butt by paying money.

Anyway they have pretty much admitted guilt, he has admitted he hit the police officer with a bottle and phone and her story is she was trying to stop him from bashing the cop, its not like they have been set up and are innocent.

Imagine an Indonesian DJ holidaying on the Goldy with his Malaysian girlfriend. Gets on the glass barbie, has a lapse of judgement and bashes an Aussie cop on the beach.

LD, I think it's just because they're "Aussies" in trouble in Bali.

And if the shoe was on the other foot, as the example given above, the Indo DJ would have been tasered, pepper sprayed and probably shot. If he survived that, he would also have been bashed (I mean tripped and fell over) within an inch of his life in the watch house.

Why was his shirt all undone when found ?
Why did he have binoculars whilst doing his shift from 8.30 pm to 8.00 am , were they night vision goggles ?
How did the lady come to have the policemans bite mark on her leg and hand?
These guys have been set up and the Australian and UK officials need to step in and supply good legal representation for the both of them

2 Weeks - Bondi

Statements from the couples lawyers basically admit they did it.

His story is he was attacked by a bad cop???....cant say I've ever met a cop that has attacked me and if i had cops just dot attack you because they are bad?

And her story is she was trying to seperate them.

There is quite a few reasons his shirt could be undone (we don't know how undone) could just be it was hot so he wore it undone (it's Indo cops are not so strict wth that kind of thing) or came undone in the tussle as for binoculars who knows he probably uses them to perve on chicks in hotel rooms with lights on.

It's Indo stuff happens everyday that makes no sense.

Bites on her hand and leg, you would have to assume because she was trying to get him off, cop probably bit her as maybe he was holding the cops hands down while on the ground.

You can never rule out a set up, its Indo anything can happen, but nothing confirms or really points to a set up.

You'd be looking at solid PL (Pseudo Local ) at minimum 15 years and therefore able to lord over true tourists , yet not able to outrank blowins with RLTV status ( Recognised Long Term Visitor ) such as old mate that's been surfing the point on and off since the seventies / eighties.

And you'll still get withering looks from true locals.

I'd say 30 + years for Angas till unarguable local status.

Maybe 40 years to err on the side of caution.

True locals are known to travel often, as they're usually core surfers by default having grown up knowing no way but to surf relentlessly.

Travelling True locals often don't have a problem getting waves off resident true locals at places they visit due to the Reciprocated Respect accord whereby the touring local will casually mention his home break and how it mirrors the visited wave in status. thereby implying that any easement of the pecking order will be returned in full should the resident local ever visit the tourists home break.

Pseudo Locals have been known to practice scowling in the mirror and reciting lines from the taxi driver in the vain attempt to project the authority of the true local.

Alas, it will never be and will only earn them derision in the car park from the life members.

For better or worse, Surf localism is as much the game of snakes and ladders as the rest of life.

It's not written in stone that you will dominate the same turf as your old man.
