NBN / DJ Voiceover Guy Wal flies under the radar
Wrote this evocative teary ballad > You'll be my Love for Little Pattie
Please read Wal's Comment...Amazing Song & Story....just that few to none would ever have heard it!
See wot crew reckons...this is a quality ballad & deserves a spin on the Radio...Yes! Still even Now!
Recorded a few tunes himself ... he speaks of "Doesn't anybody write old love songs anymore!"
That's on YouTube but comes across as a pedestrian show tune...it's still high quality though.
His other 2 Trax are much more off the charts > alt Kook Surf /

Nice one Salty.
Good memories. Travel well.

: ) cheers, @Salty.

@seeds @B6
They work their way into every corner of you life, test your patience to the limit and double you over in laughter. And all they ask in return is a bowl of food and a pat on the head.
Then they leave a massive void when they go.
Wifey was in tears.
Enjoy the waves!!!!

Anyhow...read the comments...
I was in this band, would you please post a playing of the B side (Circles).
DJ : Wow.. I'd love to know more about the band & what happened after 1969. For sure I'll get Circles onto Youtube very soon.
Thank you, it’s a long story and this was not typical of our thing, but it’s part of our story and I appreciate you posting it. I believe you’ll find “Circles” is an instrumental, though Jim and I wrote and recorded lyrics, Mike Joseph didn’t like them or the vocals and mixed them out. We still play and get together every year or two. Thanks again for the memories (none of us have copies of this).
DJ : B side Circles is now on Youtube in my channel.
*Magic Happens..
DJ, thank you so much for posting this! I (and the rest of the band) appreciate it very much. I’ll add some back story to this and the other song you posted in a bit. —Bruce
DJ : Thank you so much Bruce, I'm fascinated by any further information about the band, then & now. Please give my respect to the rest of the band..-Justin
I would love to hear some background of the group and the type of music you actually played. I have a copy of this 45 in excellent condition, I'll have to give it a spin to see how it plays. I probably haven't played it since I bought it in 1970 or so.
@knorio @DJtheFooligan, thanks for your interest in the band.
The actual name of this band was Smoke, we formed at Palos Verdes High School in the LA South Bay. At the time of this recording we were all Seniors and had played together about three years, though some of us had played in other bands before that (I started playing surf music).
We were hired to play the A side of this recording, “Blow In My Ear and I’ll Follow You Anywhere” (I’ll post more about that song with it). When we got to the recording studio, Mike Joseph (the writer / producer) told us we needed a song for the B side, and that it should be original so we wouldn’t have to pay royalties. We recorded the instrument tracks for the A side, and while Mike worked on various vocal ideas, Jim Morgan and I wrote this song in the hallway of the studio. “Circles” actually had lyrics and we recorded vocal tracks to go along with what you hear in this cut; but Mike didn’t like them and made an instrumental out of the song, that’s why it sounds empty in several places. This recording was made in early 1969, I think he only let us have one take.
We were a product of the times and heavily influenced by the 60’s music from LA, San Francisco, the US Blues scene, and British rock and blues. LA bands The Byrds played at our High School, and Buffalo Springfield at nearby Rolling Hills; their songs were part of our playlist, as were Cream, Paul Butterfield, the Hollies, the Blues Project, the Steve Miller Band, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who. We jammed a lot too, and got pretty good at it., and we even played a few originals.
We had a change in bass players and continued on into college, playing maybe six or seven years total before heading our own ways. In 2001 we all got back together for my 50th birthday, and we’ve been getting back together for a long weekend every year or two since then, our next reunion is in a couple of months. Now we’re just getting together for friendship, and the love of music (some good food and drink sprinkled in as well). With the exception of my good friend Tom Whiteman who played organ on this track and piano on the A Side, we are all still around, sadly Tom died in college, though recently his father gave me his old guitar so he will be here in spirit as well. We’re all very lucky to have music, our health, and each other. —Bruce McLeod
DJ : Wow! Thank you so very much for sharing the information about the band. I have always enjoyed learning about the bands that released one 45 and then vanished. So many of those bands actually released good material, it just wasn't backed by the "label" so the group just fell apart. It is very cool that you still get together with your band mates, I bet it is not often the case for other groups.
B- Side "Circles" > (Soon hear why the dude wanted to load his B Side...who wouldn't...it's shit hot!)
tbb is happy to share the secrets of this unique sounding lost for ever mystery track...sure sounds cool!
Enjoy a healthy toke of California Smog...Yeah Man!
Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
