INDONESIA SURF TRIP, no one surfing -

john.callahan started the topic in Friday, 18 Jul 2025 at 4:48pm

We are looking for three (3) surfers to make a surf trip to Indian Ocean Indonesia in August - new location, not likely to be anyone surfing, prime season with steady SE monsoon dry season wind and consistent SW swell.

I have added this surfEXPLORE project to my listings on the Waverii platform, access via the link for details - thanks!

I await your reply Opti. I’m just saying, not believing. AW

Gosh, it is very obvious how much it bothers y'all that you don't know where it is - and to get access and surf Callahan's Indian Ocean secret spot(s) in peak season Indian Ocean Indonesia, you are going to have to pay.

No one has been able to identify the area -

I can see very well where YOUR secret spots are, having been there before it is rather obvious.

No one has been able to identify the area in the video clip either - I guess you don't know.

Are there waves on the PACIFIC side of Indonesia? Really?

I thought that was a diving area; you know, Raja Ampat and all - you can surf there too?

The bottom line is: if you want to go and you want to know, you have to pay - don't worry, I have been doing this sort of thing for more than 30 years, it's not fake or bullshit.

I actually WROTE A BOOK on international adventure surf travel - did you hear about it? Scheduled for release in September, 2025.

https://a.co/d/6uz6QJz

Let me know when YOUR book of worldwide surfing locations is scheduled for publication!

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Just pay your deposit of USD $1500, get your invitation to the private Facebook group and do what I tell you to do, when I tell you to do it and you will be fine.

Lots of empty waves later, you can tell ALL your mates - "It was all true. He might be a dickhead Seppo wanker, but he knows exactly what he is doing, We got great waves with no one surfing"

That will prove to me that you actually know what you’re talking about . I really don’t care where your supposed mystery spot is , there’s plenty of uncrowded waves in an area covering 4000 kilometres and I don’t need to pay you $3000 USD for a spot I’ve more than likely surfed before .Enjoy your day and hopefully your dreams of 3 blind mice come true .

Fuck you’re a tool.

Most of us know the waves and the people who first went up there and surfed the waves facing the Pacific. Do you think you are some kind of Ferdinand Magellan, re writing cartographic history ?
And to make matters worse, you even talk in the third person.Such a tosser.

We even know the people who have opened a surf camp there, their nationality , we know the first boats that ventured there, businesses from the Mentawais who looked far afield and found.
I was in that area 6 weeks ago, it’s no secret, but you keep telling everyone it is.

Are you a paid up Swellnet subscriber or are you using this platform for your own selfish leverage.
You must be so desperate for money with the amount of times you’ve unfortunately appeared in this forum.
Do us all a favour and have a few Tiger or Anchor beers in the hot afternoon Singapore sun and drift of to neverland and never come back.

You’ve hit the charts, you’d just about be the biggest jerk who has ever been on this forum since Swellnets inception. AW

All hearsay and vague allusions to "knowing things" - like many others, you seem to have an aversion to facts.

When I make claims, I make extra-sure I can back them up.

Images, text materials, passport stamps, etc.

People like you just make vague statements like "I know this and I know that" with NO attribution or confirmation whatsoever.

Basically . . . a load of bullshit.

If you "know so bloody much" as you say - name the location of the video clip I posted.

I already know where it is - do you?

And you can also name all the people that surfed there before we did in February 2024, as the Headman of the village said they had never had surfers in the village before.

As there are no roads or vehicles in the area, there is no way to approach the area other than by sea - and they see (and know) every boat that approaches their area.

pretty av stuff, @calhoun, you need to find explorers who surf, not surf explorers..
somewhere like K****w***en, I'd imagine.. Hectic trip from Bandar to 'the button'..

Geez after watching that I now understand why you can’t get 3 punters together , pretty average looking waves to be honest. I’m definitely not interested if that’s what you refer to as uncrowded perfection, it’s uncrowded for a very good reason , you obviously take pictures but don’t actually surf or understand what good waves are . Good luck with the book .

yeh, good point @ts, surfers are well known for not being pig-headed, but being easy-going when told what to do and where to go by others.. toeing a line, conforming to someone else's plan. And a *secret plan* at that, until they hand over the price of a rolls royce custom board to a stranger just to find out what they've signed up for?

Not Morotai - not even close.

We went to Morotai more than 20 years ago - chartered a dive boat from Manado and crossed over, stopping at Pulau Mayu and on the west coast of Halmahera.

Yep, been to the north and east side of Waigeo, some beautiful places on that island, very remote.

Decent waves, but better at my secret spots, which you cannot identify.

Ha ha.

Weak, very weak.

Very good waves at the Rivermouth, sand and gravel bottom. Great mid-length and longboard waves at the Point. Very good left AND righthander at the reef setup.

If it was YOUR original research discovery, you would be telling people it's the best undiscovered surfing location in the world.

But it's MY discovery from all-original research, not yours - so it sucks, shit waves.

wow!!! finally, something moderately engaging about this book.. a quirk, an anecdote, some sort of personality! BIRDS!! (I spend time in a western surf place where trout fishing and bird watching is about all they have going on, tourism-wise.. )

I assume it is not an exhaustive reference book, as it has come across, with the page counts, word counts, and ummm.... not much else.. so will need some juice, some quirks.. like birds!).. you are NEARLY making conversation, and therefore, NEARLY marketing on a site @calhoun..

I have resisted from commenting so far, can't resist any longer.

I'm probably a classic Aussie (albeit, not descended directly from convicts) who is guilty of tall poppy syndrome. But, I actually don't mind arrogance, where it is warranted. I acknowledge that greats in their field often have supreme confidence in themselves and if that translates as arrogance, I can live with that. It's often a key part of the recipe for greatness. Think Warne, Jordan, Woods, Slater. If you are that good, you can be as arrogant as you like.

But misplaced arrogance, where the person in question has a grossly inflated view of themselves and their place in the world, that's a very different story. That's just an unlikeable character trait. And if you haven't got rid of that character trait by the time you're in your 40's or beyond, it's deeply entrenched in your DNA, it probably means you're not capable of self reflection, and it probably means you are a flog. I'd go further and say it probably means you don't have many true friends, and if you do, their judgment or motivations are probably questionable.

Calhoun, you're not a tall poppy, on the contrary you come across as an insecure, patronising, unlikeable bloke with a grossly unwarranted and inflated opinion of himself. You've been published? Good on you. We all have jobs, and careers, and paths we have followed, and most of us have not attempted to be published, because we've been doing other things with our lives that we have chosen to do. And actually, most of us are happy to surf for the pure enjoyment, thrill and adventure of surfing, rather than seeking to profit from it or make a name for ourselves from it. You have chosen that path, but that does make you superior to the "borderline brain-dead constituents" on this swellnet site. In fact, most core surfers around the world would agree that the path you have chosen, of publicising and promoting hitherto unknown or secret surf breaks, is directly against one of the core principles of surfing. And I have read your rebuttals to this many times over the years, and your rebuttals are not intellectually or ethically superior. They are just convenient, because they're the only arguments that someone in your shoes can use. You've sold out, you've earned yourself an income commercialising less-travelled wave regions, promoting them for your financial gain, that's your path, everyone on here knows it, and trying to defend it or dress it up as something else is a waste of time.

You won't hear from me for a while. I need to finalise plans my upcoming annual Indo trip, where I will be spending AUD$1,500 (including flights) to spend a week with a mate in a lesser known part of the Indian Ocean facing coast surfing from a selection of 4 breaks within close proximity to each other with a likely crowd of between 1-6 in the water. We won't be disclosing the location to a soul.

I've never surfed Indo Pacific, but have covered most of the Indian Ocean side.
However have a few mates that have spent a lot of time in the indo Pacific area, same you may have heard of, others you wouldn't have.
I have seen their pics and some footage of spots, and they make the video posted on thus thread look very poor indeed.
Anyway John, if you wish I could maybe put you in contact with some of these individuals.
I'm happy to do it for an introductory fee of AUD 1500.
For a special discount price of $500, i will tell you the rough area where these waves could be found.
Just don't tell my mates it was me who told you.
Reckon small price to pay for such valuable info, way better waves than what you have posted.

Can you post the video , I can’t find it .

Looks like Morotai to me. As you say, entry by boat only. And whilst you’re scratching your arse, you can tell me about the waves on Waigeo seeing you know everything.

Ha ha.

I win.

Ok, I got it wrong, big deal. I’ve also been to Halmahera but I dont think that footage is from there, anyway, who would know, you could just bullshit ad nauseum to the names of places and expect us to believe you.

What I don’t believe is that you were in Morotai 20 years ago.

You post a video of a so called secret spot for us to guess where it is, I failed geography on that one.
I think the footage is from somewhere east of Waigeo and west of. Vanimo (Papua New Guinea) or on the ‘right arm’ of NE Sulawesi on the Minihasa Peninsula, colour of the water in both locations reminds me of the geology of those areas.

See, it very easy to see straight through your motives, you and all your secrecy and secret spots that you claim to withhold until you get the cash, is really a front for you wanting to actually let us know where they really are, it’s a typical repeat process of wanting your ego rubbed , again.

I always laugh at folks who come on here suggesting they’ve a secret little gem somewhere that nobody else knows, gradually overtime, little tidbits get released or mentioned deliberately and you build the picture and before you know it we’ve all worked out where it is, just like you planned in the first place, you want the ego rubbed again to be known as the ‘first’ discoverer.

For a guy with a business that claims all the things you’ve stated, why is it after 4-5 weeks of banter you still haven’t managed to fill those last three spots, before you know it the season will be over, I smell a rat.

Moreover, an element of you I despise is your profiling, you’ve previously mentioned your ‘black mates in Hawaii’, instead of just saying mates, then you spoke in a derogatory manner about a person who is lesbian and in your latest crap you suggest you’d take even ‘retards’ on your surf trips. Some kind of a guy you are. Why would anyone go on a trip with a guy with that type of mindset. . AW

Edit. Agree, Dylan Graves leaves you for dead when it comes to talking about so called secret or out of the way waves, at least he’s respectful of all the folks he meets and the geographic locations he’s privy to.

I'm hanging out for JC to name supa's spots. I'd rather not have to make friends with him to surf there but I just can't figure out where they are.

Come on JC do us both a favour and drop the lats and longs. You'll turn this thread around!
