INDONESIA SURF TRIP, no one surfing -

We are looking for three (3) surfers to make a surf trip to Indian Ocean Indonesia in August - new location, not likely to be anyone surfing, prime season with steady SE monsoon dry season wind and consistent SW swell.

I have added this surfEXPLORE project to my listings on the Waverii platform, access via the link for details - thanks!

John, i'm starting to doubt you'll get people interested even if YOU paid them to go with you.

Those waves in the video are below average for Indo, add in that you'll be there and going to jail is sounding more appealing.

If nothing else JC has done a good job stirring the pot in an entertaining thread.
Aw not a hypocrite ... who in the past has started multiple threads about his own goings on,trips to cactus , now indo, flora and fauna etc etc but gets offended when someone else does .... "not even a paying subscriber "
Even burls is indignant!
Keep it up!

Can you post the video , I can’t find it .

As a bird observer I go to remote areas of Indo , I’m also a surfer, whilst birding, one of my eyes is always on the coastline, I watch swells and birds . They are both things of beauty. AW

I actually mention in one of the Pacific Indonesia chapters in THE BOOK that the only people that rival surfers in their fanatical commitment are birdwatchers, that they are willing to climb and camp anywhere from misty mountains to soggy swamps to find rare birds and deserve our admiration and respect.

wow!!! finally, something moderately engaging about this book.. a quirk, an anecdote, some sort of personality! BIRDS!! (I spend time in a western surf place where trout fishing and bird watching is about all they have going on, tourism-wise.. )

I assume it is not an exhaustive reference book, as it has come across, with the page counts, word counts, and ummm.... not much else.. so will need some juice, some quirks.. like birds!).. you are NEARLY making conversation, and therefore, NEARLY marketing on a site @calhoun..

well done to you, sir!

Not a reference book at all - nor is it an Atlas of the World's Best Waves, etc.

Quite entertaining, one of the Haiti chapters feature an encounter with an authentic Haitian Zombie, a product of the Voudou belief system, etc

I shall stop that nonsense immediately - members of the Swellnet constituency are getting too excited for the release and may STORM the nearest available bookstore to get their hands on a copy of surfEXPLORE: Discovering New Surfing Locations Worldwide after 29 September.

We have to consider property damage, etc.

You post a video of a so called secret spot for us to guess where it is, I failed geography on that one.
I think the footage is from somewhere east of Waigeo and west of. Vanimo (Papua New Guinea) or on the ‘right arm’ of NE Sulawesi on the Minihasa Peninsula, colour of the water in both locations reminds me of the geology of those areas.

Wrong again - not even close.

I guess since the waves suck so bad you wouldn't be interested in knowing where it is -

And yes - we were in Morotai in 2004, we were out surfing when the Rip Curl boat came from around the corner and saw that we were already there, ha ha.

You can see a seleção of that material at this link -

Like I said, I don't make claims unless I can back it up

When you are ready to sign up for the surfEXPLORE Secret Indonesia project, let me know -you might learn something.

Rather disappointing - not a single person can name the location in the video.

Instead, they have to badmouth the quality of the waves to divert attention from their lack of knowledge.

Not a single person can name the Indian Ocean Indonesia location for Callahan's Secret Indonesia Surf Trip - so they badmouth the cost structure to divert attention from their lack of knowledge.

Not as smart nor as knowledgable as they think they are.

Maybe you should sign up and make your USD $1500 deposit for the project and you could learn something from someone who actually knows what they are talking about - and is NOT just another bulldust distributor, with their vague descriptions of locations and allusions to "knowing things".

^^ he was a good-natured lush, a womaniser, a pot head, a talented boat builder, lived below the poverty line intentionally in the W.Indies, where he was loved by the local villagers. Sailed across the atlantic alone at 16, (crossed it 39 times since!) turned his back on a military career to live how he wanted on a boat with whatever woman he could convince to duck out of life for a few years. Interesting (certainly unique) cat. Lotsa weather stuff, too. Brilliantly filmed and put together.

“ Like I said, I don't make claims unless I can back it up “ …………..you claimed you know where the waves are of the pictures I posted but haven’t backed that up so I will take your word with a grain of salt . I’m not interested in your mystical waves as after watching that video I wouldn’t bother searching when there’s far better waves to be had . Charging top dollar for B & C grade waves , while staying in basic accommodation with basic indo meals is in my opinion a scam . The photos of the waves I put up have been surfed for over 3 decades and still remain virtually uncrowded , thankfully you haven’t found them . Have you thought about hiring a PR firm ?

You can fly to bali, head up the coast and get uncrowded waves of the same caliber without needing to pay the worlds biggest fuckwit.

yeh, it's great.. if you feel like slow-paced, quiet, calm, reflective.. I love that kind of thing. My kids affectionately refer to it as my taste in good-boring movies. he's a feeble old feller with a leathery patina that makes iggy pop look like a newborn in the film. He needs the help of the kind people around him, it is kinda just him over a couple of weeks alone on his boat in a village harbour in Carriacou, popping into the shops, fixing his boat, trying to work out what the end of an astonishing life well-lived is about..

Great line. Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a good watch.

It sent my mind to Hilltop Hoods. Love the lyrics of this one but especially the moment "Ain't it amazing how courageous human beings are?"
