Once board bag is full, whether it’s one board or multiples of, I wrap silver duct tape around the whole unit a third the way in from each end, it becomes a visual and mental deterrent for it to be opened by airport staff. Never failed me yet. AW
You need to check with your airline what dimensions they will allow for oversized luggage or sporting equipment . Garuda gives you free 23 kg and 300 cm length on sports equipment . Some airlines are only 230 cm or less and charge by the surfboard even if it’s in 1 bag . They also limit how many surf bags per flight. The check in personnel can be either extremely nice and accommodating or tough and ruthless. I’ve found Garuda to be exceptionally nice and professional with even not blinking when I’ve been over my limit . Sometimes you can be lucky and not get charged per board by other airlines and sometimes you get burnt badly.
Hi. I have a o/s trip coming up, I want to take 2 boards - my 9'4 and a 7'6. Having never travelled before what's the best way to pack and transport these (by air) ?
They both have good bags at the the moment, do I buy a big 9'6 travel bag and stick them both in that? Do I use the bags I currently own and just strap them together?
Appreciate any advice from serasoned travellers. TIA.
