Steve May, jerk. Fancy having a crack at your captain like that.
He needs to be reminded of his thug past and his own civilian stupid decision making. AW

Umpires got their black and white sunnies on a few times today.

Sorry,, I missed that , I was wearing my old Oakley Frogskins with the purple lens, tends to obscure your vision a bit. AW

No doubt
All a bit of fun
And whilst true it’s always the way in AFL
The camera picks up much more than the umpires can

White frames, AW?

Ooh, yer, the translucent ones. I love them, full Sport Billy Bogan from the 90’s .
Here’s the latest iteration, red lenses, translucent frames, dig, em. AW
There’s a mob in Geelong who have a giant warehouse full of Oakley Glasses they do the whole east coast from Sydney to Townsville every year. I lucked on them in Townsville last year on one of my drives. Just drove past a huge building with an Oakley Sale flag.
Pulled in $60 a pair for any type, bought three and fucked off. Two on the shelf when needed. Had clothes hats everything, super cheap.

Morning mate.
Just look for a very handsome fella with a sun tanned very, very, receding hairline and a posse of women hanging off to the side, I do also expect a carpet of Singapore orchid flowers wherever I place my Pierre Cardin shoes.
Story for another time, I once came through Manila Airport with a chick I was hanging out with in London, who happened to be INXS road manager for gigs.
We were dosed in flowers from head to toe by a huge awaiting audience, I had no idea what was going on. Stories, I’ve got a million of them. Life’s good. AW

Haja..pretty damn cool indeed!! Especially today!
Doing great here thanks mate.
Right back at ya

Seedsy boy, I reckon your loins are cooked.

They should petition the league to make games 3 quarters long.
And 18 behinds for shits sake.
It’s pathetic at this level of the game.

Somewhat wayward, but it was a better game than the schemozle last night in Launceston.

Yes @supafreak, very funny indeed ... Did you see the night Malcolm Turnbull appear on the Front Bar?

I don’t have a telly anymore , watched that clip , like the crystal idea.

^^they were both funny. Good stuff.

The absolute heart and soul of the West Coast Eagles, Jeremy McGovern.
Retired by the AFL today due to concussion.
Albany lad and in typical Sth Coast fashion, as strong as an ox and as hard as nails.
Good on ya Gov!! What a bloody legend and what a career.

And on another note, congrats to the greatest player ever * Patrick Dangerfield on reaching 350 games tonight. An absolute bull.
*obviously my own opinion but can't be too far wrong.

Finally the Lions put 4 quarters together.
Well done.

Great stuff @Seeds.
Geez my Danger comments won't age well after tonight!

Yes mate, he had a shocker.
Still a great but I wish he had of called it quits on a high in September ‘22.

Nooooooo!! Never!! He'll purr to 400 easy!!

I hope you have your tongue in cheek southern. He is an all time great, for sure. He will be in the hall of fame as soon as eligible. He would possibly make the best Geelong team ever, if they picked one now. And he'd be a good chance to make the best AFL team of the last 25 years, but he'd have some stiff competition for a midfield spot. Off the top of my head, he'd be competing with: Pendles, Buckley, Voss, Black, Aker, Gaz, Selwood, Mitchell, Dusty, Judd, Cousins, Fyfe, Ricciuto, Goodes. And that's just the midfielders. He's got a seat at that table but I'd be picking quite a few from that list before Danger in my GF side. There's currently 32 immortals who have Legend status in the AFL Hall of Fame. For mine, Danger won't be joining them. The only 2 from the above list of midfielders with a chance of joining them are Gaz and Dusty.

Apologies, Bont and Neale, throw them in there too.

Lots of good'uns in that list.
Lions finally got their radar tuned last night, while Paddy and the cats were wayward under pressure. Good match.

As a bomber's supporter comedy is the best medicine at this time of the year.

^^That’s gold.

And having slept on this, I'll add Hird, Cripps, Libba, Swan, Burgoyne and Petracca to the mix. Hird's career straddled the 20th and 21st centuries but had enough time in the 2000s to make this list. Obviously Nick Daicos will likely end up in the top echelon of this group of mids but he's early in his career.

Greetings @ringostarr, and a fine list indeed you have compiled.
Alas, but no, it was not a firm tongue in the cheeks calling Dangerfield the greatest ever, and upon reflection, i can only double down!! haha.
Whilst all those names i agree are the upper echelon of the greatest, there is something intangible, that isn't reflected in the stats, and will never be recorded in the history books in so far as his feats on the ground. Dangerfield can do things, no other player i've watched has ever been able to do. To blend a Dipper with an Ablett with a McLeod with a Petracca, all into the one player is why i think Danger is the best.
I've sat in the stands as a young kid watching and idolizing Gary Abblett senior, and he was for a long time, in my eyes, the greatest player i'd seen in my lifetime. Then along came the silk of Andrew Mcleod, who also is a player that won't have a stack of stats to his name, although a couple of normies doesn't hurt, but he too could appear to be playing his own game amongst the chaos.
But then once i'd watched the progression of Dangerfield, from Crow to Cat, it's only been the up and up. His abiility to enforce himself on every single contest, with courage and physical brutality, his quick hands, his understanding of the game and his forward craft all combine to make him the greatest....in my humble opinion. But, that's the beauty of the game. I'm sure what i see others see in their own favourite players. And in reality, it's impossible for there to be a greatest ever, when they're all so different, but to me, Danger sits at the top of the tree now. And i don't expect many, if any to agree with me! haha.
Loved that list you compiled. What a bunch of legends.
Cheers!

Oui!! Indeed Guysmiley, it's a tough period yet again for our Dons. But the youth are on the charge!!
That was funny and accurate. Having spent many months living in the 16th Arrondement in Paris, the similarities with Johnny Cheese and the French is uncanny.

You make a good case Southern. He certainly brings his own unique set of characteristics to that group of champion 21st century mids. But the likes of Goodes, Dusty, Gaz, Judd, Black, Voss, Pendles, also have their own unique characteristics in that company.
There's one player who had those characteristics of courage, brutality, skill, forward craft and game understanding who comes to mind, and that's Lethal. Surely he is on a shelf above Danger? A lazy 915 career goals at almost 3 per game, compared with Danger's 1 per game. I know its not all about the goals or stats, but those stats don't lie, and Lethal was so much more than those stats. He was a freak.
Danger has always struggled with his finishing, whether kicking to goal or to teammates, last night being a good example. 4 gettable shots at goal for a return of 3 behinds and an out on the full. I think his forward craft let's him down. That's why I have him in the elite company but not in that very small podium reserved for the absolute gods of the game. Just my opinion, thanks for the discussion.
PS I missed R Harvey and B Harvey in my list of top mids of the 21st century. I'll try and stop there, thats 25 for the first 25 years of the century

Great point about Lethal @ringostarr! Unfortunately his career was ending when i started watching footy so i missed him in his prime, but it was always talked about that he was the best ever up to that point, and possibly you make a good point for that still being the case.
Love the convo. No right or wrong. Yeah poor Danger had the wobbly boots on last night. He's a 50/50 with the goal kicking, although that seems to be the way of the modern footballer, generally speaking, especially the gun mids. Which probably shows why Dusty was so good. He could kick them from anywhere. Maybe Danger gets over the line for me cos he surfs! haha.

Just to reiterate, i've never seen a player that matches the brute strength of Dangerfield in a contested situation nor who consistently uses that strength to win the ball for his team.

Judd was close but his quality was the strenght mixed with the athleticism. Not as brutal imo.

Leigh Matthews was a thug first and foremost. True story from inside the Hawthorn rooms at the time … Kennedy used to ‘play’ the new recruits on Matthews during preseason intraclub practice matches. If the new boys took their eyes off the ball in the full knowledge that Matthews was about to run through them they were immediately dragged off the ground and never to be seen again. Welcome to footy son!!
^^ so brutal was the Matthews ‘initiation’ one country dad threatened Matthews on the spot, needing to be restrained from running on the field, very ugly, years later the dad confronted Matthews at country sports night wanting to settle it outside!!
Season starting this week so we need a thread to document Collingwood's run to its it's 17th premiership and the year Nick Daico's wins his first of four brownlow medal's.
