Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.

This is how Dutton wins:

He’s certainly attracted a lot of attention from the LP. We have had a few flyers trying to paint him in a negative light and there is a war of words going on in the Local Paper between his supporters and the LP .

Strangely we’ve seen little from Labor’s Sarah Race.

Labor have little chance in Flinders but a Smith victory would make me happy.

McKenzie is next to useless.

We used to be in Dunkley and Peta Murphy was brilliant. Jodie Belyea seems to be carrying Peta’s work. I hope she holds her seat, Conroy is a dickhead.

I cannot for the life of me understand why this has not gotten more traction? They hounded and pursued that husband of that Sydney PR chick into jail for minor insider trading and Dutton 'coincidentally' bought bank shares on the eve of the government announcing what amounted to a bank bailout netting old Dutts and nice little earn.

The only reason I can see that it's not being pursued is the fact the he more than likely wasn't the only pollie to benefit from that insider info.

The guys a fucking crook and could quite likely be our next PM.

I'm sorry, but I just cannot see how an ex-cop can amass a quarter of a billion dollar fortune by 'shrewd' investing.

My arse.

Would you accept Zen, Dutton wasn't the only person in oz to buy bank shares on the eve of the bank bailout? My neighbour, financial advisor, transferred almost 30% of his self-managed super fund into bank shares before Dutton did, even advised me to do so and I didn't, been rueing that ever since.
Would you accept there are people smarter than you and I with their money? Ray Dalio predicted it and made a motsa.
If, as you say, the reason this was not made a big deal of is because other politicians got on board, say a Labor politician, would you hold their feet to the flames? Throw them in front of a judge?
A cop making a lot of money doesn't sit well with you, he bought a house at the age of 19, what were you doing at that age? I was chasing girls and waves.
As a similar comparison, do you think a life-long pubic servant can buy a clifftop beach pad for 4 mill cash? no mortgage, no questions there?
I accept spud has run a poor campaign and will most likely lose and be replaced as the Lib leader but having a go because he, and a shitload of other smarter australians made a lot of money from the bailout is not fair. In hindsight, I asked my neighbour how the fuck he could take that kind of risk, his reply was simple, what the fuck else was every government affected by the GFC going to do? If our banking system collapses, civilised society as we know it is finished! we enter complete chaos and anarchy! Of course they were going to bail them out! In retrospect we were dumb as rocks for not seeing it!

I think it's fair in the overall scheme of things Peter. The shitload of other smarter Australians weren't in the higher echelon of Australian politics (not that we know of) when the deals went down. Let's just assume it was insider training for a sec. If that is the case we're headed for Banana Republic status if crooks like Peter Dutton even get a sniff of being the leader of this country. It's that simple.
As for Albo's MacMansion did you ever consider that his fiancee might be cashed up enough to afford it. Unless you know otherwise??

A snivelling excuse for an unethical politician. The size of the windfall had everything to do with timing, and Dutton's move was 'too cute' to put down to luck. Months, weeks, or days out and the odds change but Dutton did it less than 24 hours before the announcement.

Politicians gaining personal advantages through political decisions white ants the whole structure. It shouldn't be allowed.

Albo has been a long serving Parliamentarian, entering in 1996.
He has been on good money and perks since then, so a 4 mil house especially if bought with a partner is not really that extravagant. Especially if he invested money in housing and or shares.

Back benchers start today on approx $230,000 pa now to give you some idea.

So every punt on the stockmarket is a guaranteed return Mindora? If he put money down 2 weeks before, 2 hours before or 2 minutes before, he's guaranteed a good return? Is it not a bet? He could of lost all that money, as could of my neighbour. I didn't do it because I thought, you want me to give money to an institution that operated in a way that caused it to go bankrupt? Just because they were bailed out didn't mean it was going to perform well. It was a risk, and people smarter than you and I took that risk and did very well out of it, I don't have a problem with that, I'm just disappointed I didn't get on board!

Not sure you follow. The point was that it wasn't a bet. There was no risk. He was privy to information others weren't about timing and action. You may say he was clever, but I say the timing was too perfect for someone who rarely played the sharemarket and was briefed by Rudd.

You're a mug if you believe otherwise. Australia deserves better from our politicians.
