PNG Exploring

Rounding out a year that saw his frequent flyer points travel sky high, Sydney photographer, Joel Coleman from Saltmotion, boarded the boat PNG Explorer for a bit of exploring...in PNG. The trip was put together with the help of The Perfect Wave travel company and they surfed around the New Ireland region off the north coast of Papua. The photographs tell the story of the waves the crew scored.

A Side Serving of Ments

The traditional Indo season may have ended but it's still pumping in the Mentawais. Sydney photographer, Joel Coleman, led a recent trip on behalf of The Perfect Wave travel company and the crew scored great waves in the island chain.

Outside

On Saturday morning a small crew of Sydney surfers, including Hayden Cox, his mate James, yours truly, and a fella who's name I didn't catch (sorry mate), had a session at an offshore bombora in Hawaiian-style surf.

After four days of driving onshores the wind went west at 9PM the night before, the switch catching many surfers unawares. Dawn saw a nor-wester blowing clean powerful 12 foot waves. With a shifting takeoff and ragged seas cleanup sets were the order of the day - everyone took a licking at some stage. There were also a handful of incredible rides.

Sleep When You're Dead

Meanwhile, Joel Coleman powered his flash and lit up the night for the squinting surfers. The trip was a photographic surf mission put on by The Perfect Wave and Saltmotion Photography.
