Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 28th November)

Best Days: Margs early Wednesday morning and Friday morning

Recap

A very inconsistent W/SW groundswell over the weekend, only decent Saturday morning across the South West with an offshore wind that slowly tended more N'ly before swinging onshore into the afternoon.

Sunday unfortunately saw S/SW winds all day, but the swell was smaller and average in any case.

Today an inconsistent long-range SW groundswell has kept Margs around 3-4ft with a morning SE breeze, while further north it was tiny and to 1ft.

This week (Nov 29 – 27)

This afternoon a more consistent increase in W/SW swell is due, followed by a slightly stronger increase in size tomorrow afternoon and then again Wednesday.

These swells were generated by a pre and post-frontal fetch of W/NW and W/SW winds moving through the Indian Ocean late last week and through the weekend.

We should see 3-4ft+ waves across the South West most of tomorrow, with the better pulse Wednesday more out of the SW to 4-5ft.

Perth is due to remain tiny and around 1ft.

S/SE winds will favour semi-protected spots tomorrow, while Wednesday looks great with a morning E'ly ahead of a late morning onshore change as a small mid-latitude moves in from the west-southwest.

The small mid-latitude low will project a small tight fetch of pre-frontal W/NW gales through our swell window, followed by a broader fetch of weaker SW winds in its tail through our southern swell window.

We should see a small kick in SW swell for Thursday morning, followed by the S/SW swell into the afternoon, easing Friday.

Size looks limited, but 3-5ft sets are likely around Margs Thursday morning, with a slight kick to 4-5ft through the afternoon, easing back from 3-5ft Friday. Perth doesn't look to see any major size again.

Conditions look to play out similar to the coming days, with a morning S/SE breeze Thursday morning and then E/SE offshore Friday morning.

This weekend onwards (Dec 3 onwards)

From the weekend the surf isn't looking too flash with onshore winds easing surf Saturday, a little cleaner into Sunday and early next week but small.

Longer term we may see a larger groundswell event the following weekend, but more on this Wednesday.
