A mixed bag still expected this weekend with residual S swell trains and building E-E/NE swells from a broad, angular tropical depression centred around New Caledonia.
A trough hovering about the South Coast will see a N’ly flow through Sat, with good odds for a morning NW breeze and a late tilt back to the NW, especially south of Sydney. Further north freshening N’lies look more likely. A few leftover S swell trains should hold some 2 occ 3ft sets at S facing beaches but energy will be in the way down.
The models have now cooled on the prospects of a stalled LWT below the continent next week, instead swinging towards a mobile frontal passage through the Southern Ocean.

The current winter-calibre storm exits to the SE over the next 24 hrs with a high pressure to the north maintaining a ridge with the W’ly flow which continues across the SW of the state. An elevated high pressure belt over the state and high in Madagascan longitudes maintains a NE track of storms from Heard Island to WA longitudes.
We still have a large (1032hPa) high slow moving over NSW directing SE winds in the sub-tropics, extending out to a tradewind fetch adjacent to New Caledonia and extending into the Coral Sea. This is producing plenty of fun surf across CQ and this pattern is expected to continue through the week and over the weekend.
