Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 6th March)

Best Days: Saturday, Sunday morning

Recap

An expected kick in S'ly swell due yesterday afternoon came in as forecast with south facing beaches jumping to 3ft as winds straightened out from the West through the day.

The swell backed off rapidly into this morning leaving tiny waves again, but another pulse of S'ly swell due through the day came up again with 3-4ft south lines pushing north with more size at south swell magnets, but conditions were poor with S'ly winds.

This weekend and next week (Mar 7 – 13)

Today's strong pulse of S'ly swell was generated by a vigorous and deepening low pushing across us this morning, aiming a fetch of S/SW gales up past the coast.

The low has raced off to the east with a rapid drop in swell due through tomorrow but with much more favourable winds.

South swell magnets should still offer 3ft+ sets at dawn before easing steadily through the day, while open beaches should be in the 2ft range.

Winds should be excellent, swinging from the NW to a straighter W/NW'ly through the day.

Come Sunday only small levels of easing SE swell are due from 2ft or so under offshore W/NW winds.

Come Monday there isn't expected to be any size left across the coast, and tiny waves are due for the rest of the week.

Longer term our attention looks to be focussed on the developments in the Coral Sea, with a very strong tropical cyclone likely to form later next week while drifting south into an established trade-flow above New Zealand.

This may generate some E/NE swell for us Monday week or so, but more on this in the next update. Have a great weekend!
