Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 23rd February)

Best Days: Tuesday in southern corners, early Wednesday

Recap

Fun levels of inconsistent NE trade-swell Saturday with morning offshores, while a mix of bigger NE windswell provided more size to 3-4ft into yesterday under favourable winds through the morning again.

Today the NE windswell and longer NE trade-swell persisted around 2-3ft across open beaches with the odd bigger set at swell magnets under early favourable winds which quickly shifted N/NE. Winds have since gone variable though creating fun waves for the evening surf.

A stronger increase in NE groundswell due through today was unfortunately majorly downgraded over the weekend, with the low sitting off the North Coast stalling further north than ideal and reaching nowhere near the strength it was forecast to later last week.

Instead smaller levels of NE swell have been filtering down the coast.

This week onwards (Feb 24 onwards)

With the low sitting off the North Coast under-performing we're not expecting any major NE groundswell through tomorrow either, with an inconsistent 3ft+ wave due at north-east swell magnets during the morning ahead of a slow downwards trend through the day and further from 2ft+ Wednesday as a result of the low weakening through today.

A small and weak S/SE windswell should be in the mix tomorrow morning, but way below the NE swell. Southern corners will be the pick though with SW tending SE breezes and then Wednesday morning should see more variable breezes early.

For the rest of the week there's nothing significant on the cards with the surf due to become tiny and hang around the 1ft range through Thursday and Friday from small insignificant swell sources in the Tasman Sea.

Longer term a small and weak S/SE windswell is on the cards for Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, but of greater significance is the developments in the Northern Tasman and Coral Seas over the weekend and into next week.

We may see a substantial trade-flow event establish again which would result is some fun NE-E/NE trade-swell for our region from the middle of next week, but have a check back here Wednesday for the latest on this.
