Swellnet Sessions

Around the Grounds: Part 5 Tasmania

Tassie surfers didn't miss out on the sweet stuff during Easter as Nigel Eberhardt proves with these images. Many of the states best surfers were chasing waves elsewhere so a small crew of locals had these punchy slabs all to themselves. Not sure if that's a good thing or not...

Around The Grounds: Part 1 Gold Coast

This Easter was one of the most fruitful in recent memory with almost every surfable coast on the continent receiving great waves. Over the next two days we'll be running Swellnet Sessions from the Gold Coast, Sydney, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia too. Yeah, everywhere pumped.

First up is Swellnet photographer, Jack Dekort, who made a quick trip from his Sunny Coast home to the Gold Coast to capture these great images.

Around The Grounds: Part 2 Western Australia

Easter Friday in WA's south-west was big. Not quite Mark Foo's Unridden Realm big, although there wasn't many waves getting ridden when photographer Louis Stone was shooting.

So although this gallery is short of people riding waves it gives a great indication of size on Good Friday.

To check more of Louis' work visit his website.

Around The Grounds: Part 3 Sydney

Sydney didn't go without during the recent Easter east swell as the straight swell found its way into many quiet nooks. Photographer Rob Woodward shot Dane Rosser finding shade at one such place. Visit Rob's website Six Degrees Below The Horizon (great name, eh?) to see more of his work.

Tomorrow we'll have images from South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.

Egg Hunt

This Easter weekend Victorian photographer, Dasha, went on a bit of an egg hunt. After driving many coastal miles he came across a treasure worth stopping for. Oversized eggs somewhere east of Melbourne, shot by Dasha and surfed by a local crew including Caiden Fowler (the goofyfooter in shot 4).

Tasmanian Surf and Surrounds

By his own admission Tasmanian photographer, Nigel Eberhardt, has been getting skunked for waves lately. It's all relative though - at least judging by these photos - average waves in Tasmania still top the quality in most other parts of the country. And when the conditions are truly dire there's always the stunning landscapes to admire.

A Victorian State of Mind

After a slow summer the Great Surf Coast Swell Drought recently broke providing classic conditions to Bells and Winkipop. By classic I refer not so much to the quality but rather the weather under which it broke. The swell was accompanied by a typically Victorian array of atmospheric conditions: moody clouds, squally rain, golden light and the obligatory rainbow.

Russell Charters planted himself on the headland capturing the surfers and their surrounds.

Bells & Winki Warm Up

With Bells beginning tomorrow the pros spent the weekend fine-tuning their boards and dialling in their rail game on the long walls of Bells and Winkipop. With few ramps and even less barrels Bells and Winki are unlike the rest of the venues on the World Tour. Down here it's all about keeping speed and flow, and, when the wave allows, striking with full rail blows.

Ed Sloane caught Adriano Desouza, Gabriel Medina, Mick Fanning, Michel Bourez and Alejo Muniz adjusting their game to the winding Torquay walls.

In flight entertainment with Gabs Medina

It's not often you see airs pulled at Bells Beach, a lack of ramps usually limit the takeoff opportunities. Yet during a warm up session yesterday Gabs Medina flew where many would've floated.

Hitting the oncoming section like a pommel horse, Medina twists off the lip before vaulting into a backside air rev and riding out cleanly.

Here's hoping we see plenty more in the days to come. Sequence by Ed Sloane.

Sliding into the weekend

Just in time for a wave-rich weekend...

Recently, Jack Dekort caught (kort?) longboarder Jackson Winter cruising the Noosa points under a bite-sized easterly swell. As always, Jackson was surfing with casual style and aesthetic aplomb.

Hope y'all get a few sliders this weekend.

Colour Theory

Blue and green should never be seen without a colour in between.

In this case it's the brown nut of Russ Molony and blonde wig of Ace Buchan seperating the blue sky and green water. This colour co-ordinated photo spread, shot on the NSW Central Coast, was brought to you by Grant Molony.
