Slater at Trestles

Yesterday Robert Kelly Slater racked up his 50th WCT win when he clinched the Hurley Pro at Trestles over Joel Parkinson. It was Slater's 6th Trestles trophy and rocketed him back into contention for this year's world title. It was yet another diamond day for the 11-time world champion.

ASP photographers Kirstin Scholtz and Sean Rowland captured the champ as he moved around the competition, patiently dealing with media and fans, and ruthlessly disposing of his rivals.

Pitstop Hill August Report

No booze, no food, no smoking, no sinful speech and no waves in sight. Doesnʼt really sound like the components of an all-time surf trip does it? However, from very early on in the month, it was apparent that it was more than just the muslim community that would be observing the religious practices of Ramadan.

Byron Bay in the rear vision mirror

Spring has been slow going on most of Australia's East Coast, particularly so from Byron Bay north. To remind us of the good times ol' Pearce Leal has kindly submitted some mid-Winter gold from Byron's season of plenty.

All photos Pearce Leal. And hey, while I've got you, Pearce works for a photographic travel business, World Photo Adventures, click the link for a quick trip 'round the globe

Tristan McCaffery

And here we have Sydney's Tristan McCaffery exercising his dexterity by linking sections while remaining pitted in the Mentawai Islands.

Did he make it? After 25 frames under cover, does it matter?

Sequence by Pascal Geraghty.

South Coast Slide Night

Chris Lovell looks back on a bountiful trip to the NSW South Coast taken in August. As Chris explains it the locals took the bulk of the sets - which is to be expected - but he and his mates got a travellers share of the swell.

Chris is now in Indonesia and by the look of the charts scoring again. Keep an eye out for more photos.

Canggu Sunset Power Session

On the backside of the swell Jack went for a swim at Canggu as the sun started to set, capturing Sam Rhodes (teal boardshorts) and Levi Torresi in a high performance power session.

Saturation Point

Jack Dekort was on the ground in Bali and saw the lineups reach saturation point with the likes of Rob Machado, Craig Anderson and Ozzie Wright sharing waves with 70 other punters and 20 water photographers.

Put Up or Shut Up - Grajagan

Yesterday Tai Graham won the Put Up or Shut Up tournament at Grajagan, Indonesia. The tournament has a winner-takes-all format with each entrant throwing their own money into the pool at the start of the day. Architect of the contest, Surftimes Editor, Matt George, was the sole judge basing his decision on a loose freesurfing critique.

Watch This Space

Jordy Lawler is a young surfer from Sydney's Northern Beaches who's starting to gather attention. While he's got an impressive contest record behind him Jordy ain't being noticed for his conservative, to-the-beach approach. On the contrary it's the theatrical crowd pleasers that Jordy can pull at whim that have him pegged as a next big thing.

Snapshots from a session

Just five quick snapshots from a whole session, it's not much to represent a greater tract of time. But often it's these instants that stick when we hit the replay button in our minds eye. A flash of lip, the view from within. A surfing life that adds up to mere seconds.

These frozen moments come from Kerry Down. Jughead in the first two shots, Robert 'Rodent' Coote in the last three.

Ziggy Alberts: Generation Z

Ziggy Alberts first appeared on our radar as a favoured subject of photographer Jack Dekort. Although a talented and photogenic surfer Ziggy has also got game on land. Read an interview with the young Sunshine Coast surfer here or admire the photos below.
