Oakley Pro Bali - Night Surf

With the recent installation of two hefty light towers in front of Keramas, the Oakley Bali Pro scheduled a fancy Night Surf exhibition, complete with a booming live DJ soundtrack. Mick Curley wound up the ISO and captured these images for y'all.

Oakley Pro Bali - Round One, Airs

It was always gonna be the way: when the trades blew from behind the wave at Keramas the pros would use the wind to punt, and punt often. All the better when the wind stayed light as it did most of yesterday.

So here they are, all the best airs from Round One at Keramas (with one notable omission), check the variations and mix of grabs.

Oakley Pro Bali - Round One, Barrels & Carves

...and when the wind wasn't blowing over the back of Keramas (see this gallery of airs for when it was) the pros were drifting fins or keeping their rails firmly engaged.

Oakley Pro Bali - Round Two

Day 2 of the Oakley Pro Bali ran in pumping 4-6ft surf at Keramas. Early glassy conditions gave way to a light onshore in the afternoon, but this just opened up the floor for more maneuvers above the lip. Here's a great selection of shots from Mick Curley.

Surf Coast

Victoria, last weekend: even the staunchest Royal-hating Republican was smiling as the Queen's Birthday long weekend pumped, delivering waves on the Surf Coast for three straight days.

Dean Micic of Ocean Road Photography kept a stiff upper lip shooting these photos of you-know-where.

Sunshine Coast

The seemingly unending train of south swell has seeped into almost all nooks of the East Coast over the past fortnight. Even the Sunny Coast, the last stop on the Tasman Sea Express, has been copping its share.

Jack Dekort took these shots late last week.

South of Sydney

Koby Abberton and Lukas Street are currently hosting Hawaiian visitor and former XXL Big Wave winner, Makua Rothman. Being genial hosts they took him for a quick splash at a local spot, which, while it isn't a scratch on the waves in Hawaii, does have the added bonus of a point-blank rock platform to get the heartrate pumping.

The Arica Pro, Chile

Anthony Walsh almost made it back-to-back wins at the Maui & Sons Arica Pro in Chile today. Suffering a bout of malaria Walsh fell short in the final which was won by Peru's Alvaro Malpartida. The 3-Star event, held in pumping 4-6 foot waves, was a barrel shootout from start to finish.

North Coast Wanderings

This time of year it rarely goes flat up here. Even when the space between swells gets measured in weeks there's enough languid energy pulsing up the Tasman to refract and keep the beaches topped up. And then when the swells do hit there's shelter to be found in the lee of protruding headlands bringing an order to services.

Swell or no swell, Jack Dekort captures the early winter rhythms of the NSW North Coast.

Volcom Pro Fiji - Finals Day

You know how it went down, and if you didn't watch the webcast get yourself over to Heats on Demand pronto, or read Braithy's epic recap from the day. Here are the photos, I'll get out of your way now.

Whip & Burch

Scott 'Whippy' Dennis and Brett Burcher: two hopped up rock jockeys from the NSW south coast chasing down the heaviest waves they can find.

Recently the lads, along with photographer Mark 'Stork' Thompson, hit the highway stopping somewhere along Australia's southern coastline. The wave they'd driven to is one of the more unpredictable and heavy waves going. It wasn't perfect but breaking with just enough control to slip in and pick off the tasty ones. Considering the wave's intensity it's worth noting Stork's positioning in some of the shots. Committed much...?
