It's amazing to think that a surfing destination like PNG still exists. Last but not least the best surf charter boat (www.pngsurfaris.com) and crew that I’ve seen operating. With some awesome waves, Dogga, Benny, Harry, Doya, Danga, Tedi, Mocca, Crocket and I had a blast.

During the new year break Victorian shooter, Steve Arklay, headed north to Papua New Guinea on a surf trip. All of the exposed reefs fired. This is the first series of photos from Steve's trip.

Friday looked the biggest, while Saturday would see better winds as the swell eased. Forecasts filed, car packed, and it was time to do a quick dash out of Adelaide. They were stepping off into 6ft bombs that were throwing as wide as they were tall onto a dangerously shallow sandbank. Not many were made, but the guys would have visions of perfect cylinders etched into the back of their minds.

Crystalline blue water, clear autumnal air, and a lined-up swell coming in at an angle just so... Don't these images conjure up great memories, especially for east coast surfers?

And the puns don't done... After tempting ourselves with Vania Extract, and then gorging ourselves on Chocolate and Vania, now it's time for another helping.

On the Gold Coast the swell from Tropical Cyclone Vania only lingered for three days. Just three days, after waiting nigh on three months for the points to work.

On Saturday morning, with the Queensland floods receding and swell lines making landfall, Noosa surfers gorged themselves on scoops of Vania laid over chocolate water. Jack Dekort took the photos.//STUART NETTLE

Now, after twenty years of shooting, he's created a website to showcase his work. Salteyre is a repository filled with classic images from the Eyre Peninsula and a dropbox for shots of the latest swells.
