Jordan Barta

Cape Solander

I've already written plenty about this session. But as I took my post-session photos with an old model iPhone and Jordan Barta was using something slightly more appropriate it's worth posting his shots also. Keen-eyed readers might notice the difference in quality.

Wave of the Day: Josh Ku gets the rub of the green in Sydney this week

The fatal shore

Somewhere on a lttle-trodden stretch of the east coast photographer Jordan Barta and surfers Josh Ku and Troy Van Vliet try to make sense of a triple-sucking, backless beast of a wave.

Wave of the Day: Humping dry

"Heaven"

"As a photographer I have never seen so many perfect waves go unridden in Australia." So said the first line in the email from Sydney photographer Jordan Barta describing a recent day trip.

Jordan and surfer, Judd Atkins, "rockedĀ up to this spot with only dolphins surfing these perfect waves. We thought we were dreaming. Judd bolted back to the car while jumping around like a little kid. We surfed for three hours before any other person came out."

One On One

Sydney Eastern Suburbs photographer, Jordan Barta, has multiple hook ups with Scott Campbell while surfing a southern Sydney reefbreak. It was the first time Scott had surfed this particular wave but he lobbed into plenty of pits without the familiarity the wave usually demands.

South of Sydney

Koby Abberton and Lukas Street are currently hosting Hawaiian visitor and former XXL Big Wave winner, Makua Rothman. Being genial hosts they took him for a quick splash at a local spot, which, while it isn't a scratch on the waves in Hawaii, does have the added bonus of a point-blank rock platform to get the heartrate pumping.

Lukas and Makua in the single frames, Koby in the sequence.

Sporadic Slabs

The places that break under a long period east swell! In Sydney alone there are many mysto slabs that lay dormant for months and years never getting tangled up in short interval waves. When the period streches out and the energy runs deeper - as it did on the East Coast last Saturday - these rarely seen waves roar to life.

Jordan Barta caught Josh Ku, Brett Black, Luke Kennedy and Judd Atkins running the gauntlet at this infrequent treat.

Live Your Life

Live Your Life is a charity and clothing company started up by Bondi lad, Jordan Barta. Not just a hollow name, the meaning and motivation of Live Your Life came to Jordan following a run in with cancer. Putting things into perspective and putting his arse in to gear is what Jordan has done since the encounter and he urges others to do likewise.

And here's Jordan taking some of his own medicine, shooting Josh Ku at a wild little rock ledge somewhere on Australia's East Coast.
