As the Australian surfing population increases surfers are seeking ever more sketchy and dubious waves to ride. And so we end up at the reef you see in these photos.

Somewhere on a lttle-trodden stretch of the east coast photographer Jordan Barta and surfers Josh Ku (the goofy footer) and Troy Van Vliet (natural), try to make sense of a triple-sucking, backless beast of a wave. The claret on Van Vliet's dial testament to the proximity of the ledge.
