Wave of the Day: Jackson Winter riding the green shoots of a new swell at Noosa

Julian Wilson, late afternoon oop, Sunny Coast

Sitting in sixth spot on the 'CT rankings and first in the One World system, Julian Wilson had no need to go to Hawaii early and fight for qualification. Following Portugal Jules had an extended break at his Sunshine Coast home, where a lack of swell meant plenty of small wave practice.

Clean nose, dry rails

Rail turns being the overrated gimmick that they are it's time we ran a gallery comprised solely of airs. Thas' right, nought but dry rails, functional grabs, and spinning to win.

Better Days

To cope with the miniscule monotony Swellnet photographer, Jack Dekort, has trawled back through his recent archives. Lifting his spirits by recollecting better days from the past year.

That Was Then, This Is Noosa

It's been a tidy little run of waves on the Noosa points. Nothing big, but big enough to ditch the longboards for those so inclined, and persistent enough to sate the appetites of wave starved Queenslanders.

That said, it's flat today. So here are a few photos from then.

Noosa

The Great East Coast Flat Spell of 2013 broke yesterday - at least for past of the afflicted coastline.

After nigh on four weeks of abject flatness an unseasonal trade wind blast coated the NSW north coast and Queensland coasts in mid-range waves. It was bigger enough to round the points at Noosa where Jack Dekort was Johnny on the spot for these photos.

Sunny Coast Weekend

Unseasonal? Yeah, well sorta...

The Sunshine Coast had a sorta unseasonal burst of east swell over the weekend, part of a broader swathe of swell that hit the whole east coast. Jack Dekort went a'roaming not very far from home. There he caught Mitch Adams, Ziggy and Tom flying over and racing under.

Sunny Coast

The easterly trade swell has been plugging away on the Sunshine Coast most of this week. Yet this morning the swell had that bit extra oomph in it, courtesy of a mid-Tasman low.

Jack Dekort scarfed his Weet-Bix for a fun run through the early session with Ziggy Albert, Tom Tyler and old mate kneelo getting his backlit glow on. There's even a sly shot of Julian Wilson getting high during yesterday's late session.

Day Comes

Apologies in advance for the sickeningly upbeat tone of this gallery, when you're displaying sunrises on the Sunshine Coast it's hard to avoid a bright and cheery ambience.

But here they are, six reasons to tuck in early and set your alarm clock to rise with the roosters. Not to mention beat the ravenous crowds.

On The Boil

Before I begin: you'll have to excuse the East Coast-centric content of late, it's been pumping here. Hope all you surfers from elsewhere have been getting some too.
