On The Boil

Before I begin: you'll have to excuse the East Coast-centric content of late, it's been pumping here. Hope all you surfers from elsewhere have been getting some too.

Sunshine Coast

The seemingly unending train of south swell has seeped into almost all nooks of the East Coast over the past fortnight. Even the Sunny Coast, the last stop on the Tasman Sea Express, has been copping its share.

Jack Dekort took these shots late last week.

North Coast Wanderings

This time of year it rarely goes flat up here. Even when the space between swells gets measured in weeks there's enough languid energy pulsing up the Tasman to refract and keep the beaches topped up. And then when the swells do hit there's shelter to be found in the lee of protruding headlands bringing an order to services.

Swell or no swell, Jack Dekort captures the early winter rhythms of the NSW North Coast.

Winter Sun

Seems any coastline facing into the Tasman basin is copping a heavy load of swell lately. The Sunshine Coast, in the far north of said basin, is one of the least likely places to pump under these conditions but it did just that - and on the first day of winter no less.

Mitch Adams, Shaun Stevic and a fella called Clinton get amongst it somewhere on the Sunny Coast.

Northern NSW

With the cooling weather the easterly trade wind belt off SE QLD and Northern NSW has ground to a halt, and with it the ever-reliable easterly trade swells. They've been replaced by a succession of long period highly directional south swells funnelling up the Tasman Sea. And rather than give an equal spread of waves - as the easterly swells are want to do - only those spots exposed to the south are receiving any quality.

Jack Dekort has been traipsing around Northern NSW, among the rain and gloom, seeking out said spots.

Under the sun, under the surface

Our man with the cam, Jack Dekort, is traipsing 'round the northern NSW coast and his fortunes are on the rise. His last batch of photos were moody black and white numbers, owing to the low cloud and gloom that was enveloping the coast. Today however, the sun shone briliantly and the water turned a fantastic shade of turquoise.

Time to don the Churchills, wrap the water housing, and deliver some polychromatic plates.

Ink in the Water

Louis Gervais ain't given to surfing on plain white sleds anymore than he's into plain white skin. Every surface is a canvas for the Gold Coast-based artist and heavily inked surfer.

Swellnet photographer, Jack Dekort, has been keeping company with Louis lately, surfing the corner at D'Bah and photographing his work. Also in frame is Jack's fellow Sunny Coaster, Levi Torrisi.

Touch down, take off

Ending his southern sojourn last week, photograher Jack Dekort touched down at home on the Sunny Coast in time for a boost session with Ziggy Alberts, Julian Wilson and Seb Wilson. He then darted down to the Goldy for a similar sesh with Mitch Parko and Brent Dorrington.

Narrabeen

Far from his Sunny Coast base photographer Jack Dekort hooked up with longboarding stylist Matt Chojnacki to shoot the tail end of a great south swell.

Byron - Ballina

Sunny Coast photographer, Jack Dekort, and mates were recently rescued by a broken down van. When a pre-planned surf trip threatened to send them south toward Sydney and away from a fresh east swell their van intervened. Wasn't much to complain about with three straight days of swell lighting up the coast.

Sunny Coast Beachies

The surf may have throttled back and stopped breaking on the points, but the Sunny Coast beachies have been providing plenty of mid-range punch. Jack Dekort captured Levi Torissi, Mitch Adams, Julian Taylor and Matt Hill trading blows over well-shaped banks.

Noosa Heads

What a week it's been up Noosa way. A persistent trade wind swell gave way to lines from Tropical Cyclone Sandra all while the Noosa Festival of Surfing was underway. I think Swellnet's Noosa reporter would be a very happy chap right about now. Onya Phil!
