There’s really not much that I can say about September that I didn’t say in August - it was a very good month. The first week set the pace. It started with the Maldivian staple: 2-4ft of clean S/SE swell and light off-shores that enabled us to surf all the waves in the area.

Competition began straight off the bat at the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal - first day of the waiting period and they're into Round 1. The World Title may be decided here at Portugal so there's a delicious backstory running through the heats: Mick or Kelly, who'll be the champ?

The final had everything a great comp should, consistent sets, excellent surfing and a vocal crowd to boot as the guys went wave for wave. The lead changed several times but it was the power and dominance of Dion Atkinson that proved too much.

Atrocious, just atrocious. That'd be the best way to describe the surf for the finals of the Quik Pro France. A freshening northerly seabreeze whipped up the small beachbreaks putting paid to barrels and opening up the air game. Fitting then, that Gabriel Medina made it to the finals - his best result of the year - by going left and punting into the wind.
