26th July 2006 EULOGY FOR LATE ASP CEO PETER WHITTAKER BY WAYNE "RABBIT" BARTHOLOMEW It is with great sadness that I write of the passing of former ASP International CEO Peter Whittaker. Pete passed away at noon on Saturday July 22, 2006, after a long illness. Peter leaves a great legacy in the sport of surfing, many of today's pro surfers and definitely future professionals are the direct beneficiaries of Peter's body of work as a sports administrator. Some people become surfing administrators, some people are born to be one. Pete was the latter.

The Clean Ocean Foundation has joined local residents and the State Opposition in opposing the Bracks Government's plan to build an industrial sewage treatment facility at 13th Beach between Barwon Heads and Torquay.
Barwon Water has refused to specify the exact nature of the factory they plan to build at 13th Beach. What is known is that they will be thermal drying sludge at the site, which is the residual of the sewage treatment process.
To be completely honest, we're not exactly sure what we're looking at. These images have been circulating the internet for the last few days, incorrectly titled Frozen Tidal Wave a very unlikely event to be captured in a moment of time in a block of ice.
Unfortunately, despite lengthy investigative work, we've been unable to track down the photographers's details, so we don't know if they were taken in the Arctic or the Antarctic. The size and shape suggests some sort of glacial structure, but it's too hard to be sure without any more information.

Surfers on Victoria's Morninton Peninsula have long complained of illness due to the polluted water surrounding the Gunnamatta Outfall. Sadly, many recorded cases of viral meningitis, brachial neuritis, tonsillitis, trench fever, hepatitis C and kidney, eye, ear nose and throat infections have been attributed to swimming or surfing in the area.
