Feel the burn - video

Swellnet Dispatch

This wave was shot shortly after Stu Gibson first launched his drone. It is, as Gibbo says, "A seriously long wave." And considering where it's situated there's often only "about one set an hour in the freezing so the locals like to share the waves."

I couldn't be happier for the new wave of aspiring Tasmanian surf photographers out there doing their best to use the uncrowded little known beauty of Tasmania to launch their own personal careers as photographers. On behalf of all Tasmanian surfers, I applaud them for encouraging the slow but sure increase of surfers in/travelling to Tasmania, and for sacrificing our collective joy in less-crowded waves for their own personal gains.

I have never met anyone in the lineup that has come interstate to surf one of the points. They are incredibly inconsistent and mostly under 2ft even when forecasts deem them to be 'on'.

Didn't you invade G-Land last year? Happy to exploit other breaks except your own?

Yeah, so after seeing this video I immediately booked flights for me and my 12 buddies (we all ride hypto kryptos) to Tassie. I've just spend last 30 mins matching the coastline in the vid with google maps and figured it out how we can get our hands on this beauty. Dan can I give you a buzz once we arrive, to get a real authentic Tassie experience, I'd love to hang out with you and whinge about the increasing crowds.

Every freaking time a vid of a supposedly lesser known spot pops up this argument is used. Funny enough you could also point you finger to Swellnet (which facilities you use to comment) on making the video accessible to greater audience. Get over it man, more surfers nowadays. Don't like it, try lawn bowls.

Thing is dandandan when this place works (which is about as often as St Kilda winning the grand final) every surfer in Hobart is on it anyway, so an extra 200 possible interstate Swellnet blow ins makes no difference. If you don't like it maybe head out of town a ways and I'm sure you'll find some gold guaranteed never to be exposed. Or maybe strap on some cojones and do as the Village People said "Go West" son!!!

This same commentary could be applied to just about any high quality surf spot on the Aussie coast - for that matter on the planet.
Time to begin the artificial reefs - the demand is there.

Aside from all that - Hows that brutal drop in at the 30 second mark??!! Hope the guy on the inside did something to deserve it, cause now he's been 'scorched drone-style'... which is slightly more high-tech and fancy than being burnt whilst being filmed a regular camera. bet his twitter, facebook, etsi and Itunes accounts are going bloody bananas after that serving
