Merry Xmas y'all, 2022
Well done, Ben.
Easing into the Christmas celebrations this morning, after a lovely solo dawnie. Only waist to shoulder high, but perfect. Sunny and warm too.
Merry Christmas everyone.
merry christmas you mob
thanks for all the amazing content swell net team
Haha, awesome Ben! Great work.
Merry Christmas all!
I reckon, me and power tools and tinnies are a bad mix!
Merry Xmas all.
Delightful babyfood here this morning with warm blue water and light offshores.
Fun for all the family.
Thanks for another year Swellnet team. Looks like you’ve delivered just about everywhere.
I couldn’t surf but did swim in the bay (in Melb) for the first time since before winter. Glorious morning. Sheet glass.
How’d you go Craig? Any luck on the mid on Friday?
How’d you go on the
Merry Christmas folks. Be safe and have a great day whereever you are.
Morning swim checked off the list here. :-)
Bnkref, outgoing tide claimed the little pulse, was a slow 1-2ft but I surfed solo until after 9pm with a nice sunset. Wish I had my little groveller from Sydney.
Yesterday was a classic too big for Waits and Parsons but Middleton had me disinterested. Checked a few spots in between but ended up at Cliffs on the middy. Was the best choice of board for it and a little punchier than I thought. 3ft on the sets and some nice sections for the middy.
While it was great to scope around the old haunts, it makes me realise how spoilt were are on the East Coast for waves and options.

Tell me about it!
VH has to be the most cursed surf stretch of coast in Australia, in terms of lack of options per km. The bays and headlands just don't produce good waves....whereas over on the east everyone's spoilt - look on google maps, see a little headland, expect a fun point wave.
Kudos to the keen SA surfers who've stuck it out surfing around VH!

That’s a decent result for this time of year. Good stuff.

Merry Christmas everyone. I've been a bit quiet recently, been busier than a three fingered banjo player.
Bluebird day here, sunny, and offshore. Nice little groundswell at 16 secs. Can't surf though- got stitches in my eye socket having had a BCC resection last week.
Merry Christmas to you Zen, a BCC resection in your eye socket? Nasty. Wishing you a speedy recovery..
Perfect day for it here in VIC, hope everyone had a great day.
Quick word from the ground swellnuts. Just on my way back from a photo mission. Swell was easily 15ft plus with 20ft plus sets on the bombies. It was 4-5ft at dawn. Went home, had a cuppa w my neighbours, packed my bag, carted 30kgplus of drinks, prawns, chicken, music, clothing in a sportsbag for over an hour over a massive coastal ridge. All the way to sea level and back up again . The coastline is the most exposed bit of coast in WA and jagged gnarly limestone.1 slip away from impalement. I blew the sole of my shoe out from the sheer g forces of my sports bag. But the waves. Oh my goodness. Ive been over this way for a few years now and thats as powerful a swell as ive ever seen. Honestly couldn't think of a better way to spend Christmas . Anyway hope all have had a similar day of stoke in one firm or another. From the edge of the earth, over and out amigos

Quick recovery Zen....
...still walking :-D
Its been a light drizzle all dsy and theres these beautiful kangaroo paws out in full bloom everywhere. Currently standing amongst a headhigh stand of them. They're glowing in the dark overcast light. This place is insane
Still walking...just passing some crazy frog action. This whole gully is alive. All different frog sounds. Wild country. Just getting on dark now. Anyway, 15mins to car..This time over and out Swellnuts. Merry Christmas!
Shit Zen, hopefully you make a full recovery!

Last year tbb got knocked out by Panadol (3hrs) ...this year we were Road Blocked by a giant Snake.
Continue atop Burleigh Headland West towards Tallebudgera.
Massive it was! Mum tried to coach it off the Road...same Mum hurls Loaves of bread for 100's of birds!
Snake took up most of the road width & 6" thick then threaded thru a Car wheel to rid grit.
Was moving well > Like it does it often...then it made off into road side grass.
Fact! This was the only 2 hours of sunlight we've had & snake "Naturally" absorbed heat from the road!
Xmas is getting more riskier each year!

Never seen a swell jump so quickly in such a short space of time @craig. Had a little swim at dawn in the rockpools and the swell was 4foot, maybe 6foot occasional sets, washy, rippy, building but nothing significant.
Went home, had a cuppa with neighbour, packed a bag, walked for an hour, and at 9.30am was looking at 15-20foot plus surf. It was phenomenal.
Looks like the angle was way off for the West Coast/Margs. Super south on the biggest sets.
Funny enough, the swell dropped back to 8-10foot by 4ish. The storm to the south must have flared and passed right in the swell window for here, just for a few hours. Couldn't believe what i was watching, and almost couldnt compute it. Crazy. Guessing swell too south for the well known slabs down this way, but definitely would have been breaking with the size.

Plenty of size on the exposed coast between the capes BD, problem was the wind. As you mentioned the south in the swell didn't allow maximum size into the bays, cleaner waves, big enough to surf various spots, but not very big. Peaked just over 5m on the Cape Nat buoy in the arvo, about a meter smaller than the south coast received.
Good to hear how it was from over your side there @Jamyardy. Always good to read your reports. Bugger about the wind though. Yeah was huge here and i was happy to spectate....from 30m above at a safe distance too mind you! Just got back from the beach and it's certainly jumped again and looks like a ton more swell coming to round out the year. Hope you score a few amongst the holiday mayhem.

While it was great to scope around the old haunts, it makes me realise how spoilt were are on the East Coast for waves and options.
Merry Christmas Craig and crew. Can totally relate to this statement - spoiled we are. We're over in the wind now, but had a fun Christmas day session in onshore junky beachies to shoulder high. Water was so warm, very nice. Lots of fitness staying in position, and the odd tube thrown on takeoff, like a box of chocolates.
I reckon a bit of that Christmas swell hit this faraway coast too, Boxing day went up 3s in period and 1m in size on Xmas day. The swell was there for a day, then vanished.
I do love this coast though - it's still Free. And things are still affordable for normal people.
And best wishes to all of you for a great year coming up - this one has been a very good one, and it's great to end it surrounded by family, friends and all their exciting stories.
Nice VJ, ha yeah glancing blow of swell from the south eh?
I was hoping to scope the swell from the plane leaving Adelaide, but alas not much was getting into the gulf at midday Boxing Day.
Come on Craigo. It got to at least one and a half ft at the mid on Boxing Day.
Pity some hat wearing old fella on a mal slow paddled right into my way on the best wave I managed to snavel.
Twas a lovely evening nonetheless.
Ha, bummer!
Yeah. For some reason I expect people to paddle out of your way not into your way.
The real bummer was I copped a nasty ding on my fav Weasel custom.
Lucky I run glass ins as the 4inch fin chop into the tail of old mates board was not pretty at all.
No more Weasel customs to be had is a bummer as well.
Oh yeah. Merry xmas to y'all.
And a happy New Year
Had a great morning with the family unwrapping gifts, following our customary Xmas eve extended lunch/dinner with close friends.
After the kids went to bed (a couple of hours later than usual), I spent four hours in the garage with a belly full of beer and a cordless drill trying to assemble a ping pong table.
Can't quite work out how my frequent swearing didn't wake the kids, nor the screeching of nails into metal, the dropping of steel frames on to concrete, and the opening of consolatory tinnies.
Gave up twice, but ended up reconsidering both times, and eventually finished the bloody thing at 1am.
Totally worth it for the look on the kids face this morning.
I hope you all have a great day with friends and family.
