Indonesia News/Updates
garuda?
what's reasonably cheap?
did you do it online? all the advice when I was booking tickets was to use call centre, but may is way off... should be fine...
geez it'll be nice when they get that bali quarrantine rocking... nothing against jakarta... but...
@sypkan , booked Jetstar Brisbane Bali return , 3 passengers, 100kg luggage plus 2 oversize items ( board bags ) $2350 return, return leg was extra $170 per person as end school holidays. Only going for 6 weeks, daughter will miss 1 month school. Booked online looked like about 20 odd seats already taken but not true indication as , if you don’t pay for seating it’s not blocked on map of available seats . Looked at virgin but they couldn’t give price for extra kgs and were $400 each way roughly. The longer I leave it the more I will pay. Last trip saved $1200 by booking early

That’s exciting Supa, let’s hope it holds up and you get over there.
6 weeks...
you thinking quarrantine finished by then? (indo one)
I honestly have no idea, ...and anyone's guess is good atm...
and, I hate to be a downer... but just so you know, pretty much all airlines have been taking bookings right throughout this pandemic, knowing full well the flights aren't likely to fly... it's a way to keep their cash flow up...
that's why I asked garuda, as they have been the only option
should be a different world by may though, seems so, with current pace of change...
one would hope so
Yeah, bookings for Bali from Brisbane with Jetstar don’t start until April 2022 , I’m taking the punt , I understand what your saying , Ive been fully refunded twice now so its all good .
refunds... nice...
many airlines just offering credit notes, or were...
good luck mate, it's getting closer either way...
@sypkan , airlines and travel insurance try to offer credit vouchers and some people except them . Jetstar both times offered vouchers and I said no thanks I’ll take a full refund thanks . They said it might take 2 weeks, I said no problem Money was back in account with in 2 days . I had to get ACCC onto my insurance company however as they weren’t even offering credit vouchers. Australian consumer laws state that a company cant charge money for a service that’s not provided. The government put a hold on leaving not me or Jetstar, we didn’t cancel , the government stopped us . So even though insurance policies say there’s a 14 day cooling period, it doesn’t stand up if a service hasn’t been provided so it took ACCC 2 months but I got full refund. Plus I got to write a nasty review along with about 500 other people. I’ve never made a claim in all my years traveling and the stupid greedy cnts lost a loyal customer .
@sypkan , sorry it was AFAC that got me me money back , the ACCC pointed me in their direction .
AFCA , I got it wrong again

geez it makes you wonder hey...
about a lot of things we do...
It's pretty amazing, here is a visual
And reports from my inlays is what is reflected here, hospitals now don't have Covid cases, no cases in their neighbourhood when before quite a few people even died.
Seeing back in March reports where 50% of Jakarta people had Covid antibodies you would expect that most people in the main islands like Java, Bali, built up areas of Sumatra have been exposed to Covid and have anti bodies.
Reports from places like Nias, telos, Mentawais is different though they escaped the last wave.
It's going to be really interesting to see if another wave will happen and if it does to what extent it will be.
Seeing Indonesia has little variation in temps, and the spike happened in the dry season you cant even factor in seasonal changes like say Europe or Australia.
Natural exposure/natural immunity to Covid could be the only thing that really ensures Indonesia gets on top of Covid, natural exposure acting like a booster shot.
I mean the main vax in Indo is that Chinese one that is possibly one of the least effective and vax take up so slow due to the large population so far only 17% of pop fully vaxed.
And if it does wear off after six months, then its not going to be very effective as in six months vax rates might be 50% at best and a huge chunk of those people will need boosters, to vaccinate everyone and have them having residence without natural immunity will just be like a dog chassing its tail..if you know what i mean.

a pretty spectacular turnaround ...and once again, the media are silent...

No idea about that.
Well that didn’t last long . https://coconuts.co/bali/news/singapore-airlines-quashes-reports-of-nove...
That talk of Bali wanting to keep backpackers out and encourage high end tourist, i now know how they are going to aim to do it at least for a period.
Even when borders reopen to tourist you are going to have to do a period of quarantine like 7 days, the hotel options for this are only the most expensive in Bali, so it's going to cost good money.
@indo , that’s going to be fun for alot of tourists that go for a 8 day holiday , imagine families on school holidays locked in their room with kids for a week . Plenty of Chinese do 5 day holidays , if fully vaxed and producing a negative test, do you think they will enforce a 7 day quarantine ?

Latest wave pool concept
@sprout , it’s still there , going to be a hell of a job to get it off the reef. https://fb.watch/8688fc4veu/

Expect it will be a little more relaxed than locked in your room type hotel quarantine and more just restricted to the resort so still access restaurant and pool etc, maybe even bus type tours to selected areas. (unless you test positive on arrival, then i guess you will be locked down in your room)
So guest are basically in a bubble with other guest but practising social distancing etc, all good unless an outbreak happens in that bubble though.
A lot of high end travellers rarely leave their resorts anyway.
BTW. This is just my and others thoughts/assumptions based on this list of hotels supposedly that will be the Bali Quarantine options, makes sense though and its the high end business that have the power/sway/influence over government be it Bali or Indonesia.

Captain Blog , it was at night time and the lighthouse doesn’t always work , it was on its way to cennigan to build new boat harbour. A tug has tried pulling it off and also got stuck but managed to free itself. In 2005 ? a fishing boat ( about 200 ft ) from benoa harbour got stuck in the night, other boats from the same fleet tried pulling it off only to also get stuck , ended up with 4 boats on the reef . Took 2 months waiting for big tides before finally all were gone . There’s been some tragic loss of lives over the years from boats loaded with locals misjudging the reef and waves .

He can’t be serious when he says locals haven’t benefited from tourism . Ive got local Balinese mates that own and run a variety of businesses and make very good money . Some surf school owners make extremely good $ for a half days work , much better than around the clock work on seaweed farms that give a family of four about 1.5 million Rp a month.
I agree sf, he's off his head. But i would like to see Balinese people successful without tourism.
groundswell wrote:I agree sf, he's off his head. But i would like to see Balinese people successful without tourism.
Yes agreed groundswell , covid and Agung eruptions have shown that reliance on tourism alone doesn’t work . Bali had in the past some of the best quality rice and an export market . With land in legian , seminyak , Canggu , ubud etc now run over with villas , resorts etc they now import rice .
Bali , unfortunately , will never be as successful without tourism as they are with it .
We all know what a wonderful place it is to visit and when tourists are allowed to travel the place is full . So much work for the locals . Same thing with every major tourist destination like Egypt , Maldives , Great Barrier Reef etc .
Anything than can be done to stop the boom bust cycle should be encouraged . Australians helped them so much after the bombings by being the first nationality to return .

Yeah pretty crazy statement, yeah sure investors be it foreign or from Indo mostly Java make big money, so do a lot of Balinese in so many different ways, some have become wealthy from tourism some make a lot more money than they could elsewhere like your example and 1.5 juta a month these days is nothing 2.5 Juta is Bali's official min wage now. (off course many earn far less being a large cash based job market)
If Balinese didnt make money from tourism they wouldn't be hurting so much now.
Tomorrow,Thursday 14 th,is the big day.International flights into Bali to resume with people from 19 countries got the go ahead.Thought it was 6 but missus assures me it's 19.Aussies miss out but amongst others the Kiwis get a run.Being the news nuffy my wife is she tells me that there are 300,000 people already booked. 5 days quarantine with 35 hotels to choose from.Nusa dua,Sanur,Ubud with a couple of airport / Kuta hotels thrown in. Watched a program last night on Kompass TV ,bloke at the airport giving us a rundown of what's going on . plenty of PCR testing booths ,incoming must be doubled vacced ,must show hotel booking etc ,they're ready to go .Obviously going to be staggered arrivals.Lets see how this turns out ,talking to people reliant on tourism they're frothing for business as usual. For their sake I hope it works.
Don't worry about us Kiwis. Nobody will go because we're in fucken lockdown, and because we'd never get back into NZ.
Have family in Aus waiting to move home, and they've trying to get a spot in quarantine since June.
NZ is a prison, mentally and physically.
@island bay , any talk about home quarantine in the future ?
Supafreak wrote:@island bay , any talk about home quarantine in the future ?
NZ govt is all fuckin talk. Pack of arseholes. Disgusting how they are treating people wanting to return home, the system is fucked. Jacinta is a mouthpiece for fuck all but lies and backflips.
Yeah I'm stuck offshore trying to get home to my kids and my oath I'm bitter as fuck

That sucks mate , it’s madness what’s going on , there’s thousands of queenslanders locked out of their home state and Victoria with the highest amount of cases has also locked people out . Insanity is the new normal.
So sorry to hear that, inzider. What a truly awful situation to be in. All the best to you and your family.
Supafreak, there’s a pilot programme on the way to test home isolation: 150 people (there are possible 50000+ waiting), at a cost of $1000.
I’m fully prepared for the govt to fcuk that up too, cause they seem very inept at executing even their pet projects.
Inzider…..so heavy mate. Hope you get there soon.

It would be interesting to hear where she got this info from as all the articles ive seen have had just 6 countries, there was some articles going around about two weeks before the current announcements though with a different list of countries that included USA & Germany (no Aust) but when you compare the two list, the current one makes sense being generally low risk countries for Covid, while the other list didn't make much sense as countries with more Covid and just more relaxed approach to Covid.
Im betting it's just the six countries that includes NZ first, this would make sense to test the waters and then if goes okay, they most likely will start introducing more countries with high vaccination rates etc but that's just my thoughts.

I remember in the early days of covid NZ seemed to be doing everything so much better than Oz, now from what you hear they’ve gone backwards or something? Wasn’t it nearly eliminated at one point?
There were certainly some easier times, goofyfoot, and NZ was coasting. From the very start, though, I was questioning what our exit strategy would be, but you can guess how popular that question was.
There are still no firm plans. No goals or targets. We're just panicking along (imho). But vaxx rates are way up there now, so hopefully there'll be progress.
Hey guys,
Wondering what the go-to website is for Indonesian news/updates in English?
I'm mostly interested in Covid and international border related news. What's out there?
