Is the worlds greatest small wave surfer a pussy?
I reckon Tahiti and pipe the only real scary ones for him unless Marg’s is at big box or North Point or G land is 10ft.
Tahiti doesn’t regularly get a big swell in the waiting period either.
So he’s well and truly a chance of scraping through without overcoming his fears.
I hope all 5 of those locations fire though.
Yep that's pretty much the truth aint it Stu. Same for the women.
Enter at own risk!!
well........
LOL yeah jeez Pipe and Chopes, that's zero from two... still a p
Pretty surprising to see Hog take out Jack Robbo, with a side slide pit i have done myself its not technical imo its a mistake from angling in and not paddling in under the lip correctly. But im hooting for Hog even though one of the Tahitian locals probably deserve the spot a lot more and can surf chopes better.
Puts a big question mark over his most likely world title this year.
I have run with him and he's aight
4 years since this thread began, two world titles later **, and what's changed?
I agree , Phil dominated.
Win the contests put in front of you and you win the title.
Let’s get the contests in the right waves and see who wins then.
Phil is the champ
Luv his surfing.
Luv watching pipe too.

Unless he turns over a new leaf, and fast, he's run his last world title race.
Not dissing Stu but interesting reading some of the old comments.
Two world titles now and this years results at those comps.
Pipe=5th, Sunset=1st, Margs=5th No G-land, Tahiti=9th place
Next year is going to be interesting though if all those events get solid swells, although i think its only solid hollow lefts that are his weakness.
Moot point #lowinfo.
Pipe dribble, Tahiti dribble (and a 9th is second last..he looked terrified out there and it was 4foot), Sunset, 4-6foot clean and in his wheelhouse, Margs mainbreak doesn't exactly transfer to heaving deathslabs. Would have been interesting at the Box though.
Even his dads saying he's scared of hitting the reef. A champion?? pfft. Gotta be kidding me.
Agree with the previous two comments though. He can only surf whats in front of him. A small wave champion. sure. If that's what you're into.
'Even his dads saying he's scared of hitting the reef.'
Him and me both.
(hitting the reef)
The shemozle made a small wave tour so we got a small wave champ.
But jeez
The small wave surfing that Phil and Ethan were doing in the final was insane.
Bring back pipe.

Well thats kinda the point, thats how surfing works, on paper it can look like certain comps favour certain surfers, but in reality its all about what Huey throws up and other factors. (again good example 2022 Toledo second at G-land)
It also goes the other way too, for instance you would think Rio or even Portugal would be comps Toledo had a good chance in and in 2022 he got a 1st at Rio and a second at Portugal.
But in 2023 those along with Tahiti were his worse scores a 17th place in Portugal and a 9th in Rio(same as Tahiti)
BTW. i dont think having a fear of hitting the reef, means he is less of a champion, everyone has that fear its just to what extent and how it effects their approach.

Shit, sorry i missed one!! @lowinfo ..dribble.
If I was on tour and got labeled the worlds greatest small wave surfer, I’d be pissed and embarrassed and have a point to prove. After being found wanting at Teahupo’o and now at the box...is Toledo better suited to a cat fanciers competition where the old ladies can stroke him? So, what’s the verdict? Pussy or not?
