It's an interesting story. No idea where it's going to go.
But what an epic burn that was! Awesome to watch.

I think for most of us mere mortals we stick to the rules when surfing outside our locals... not sure the same can be said about many of the pros.

I'm dumbfounded that Wassell allowed the 'knife video' to be made considering he knew the whole story. Surely he'd know how things would turn out?

Then again, maybe he, like many tow surfers, was completely oblivious to the anger and frustration they were causing by taking the sets. And he remained oblivious to it after he left Tahiti.

If so, what a way to get wised up! 60,000 views and skyrocketing...

and to leave the young guy exhausted, boardless in a wild ocean, that was totally wrong a life could have easily been lost. wassell is a north shore lifeguard for fucks sake.

Being left in the pass isn't *that* big of a deal. Sapinus has a wide pass, water doesn't rush out to sea like narrower channels. It'd just require a head down haul toward the beach. If the lidder was game enough to take off on that wave I reckon he would've faced far worse in his time.

Still, not a good look for a Hawaiian lifeguard.

Hmm... Wasn't it just over 15 years ago this place was out of the spot light and underground?

Then the ASP came to town in mid/ late 90's...

Laird had his Millenium wave, and made sure it was documented from every angle.
He now whinges about crowds out there.

Gee I can't wait for the circus to come to town.

Ok, didn't know they had two waves like that.
Do you think both waves would be over run without the help of ASP/media?

There's, apparently, thousands of waves over there and Wassels gonna "find a bigger and better one" so he can get the shot and turn that into a circus also.

Would Wassell let people tow through paddlers at big pipe?

Cant believe someone coming from a lifesaving background as Wassel is, can be so disrespectful of paddle surfers in their country. The Tahitians should tow thru pipe on the day of the year. Both surfers need to pull there heads in but not a good look for the tow boys, rule 1 is dont tow while theres surfers paddling.

IMO they are both in the wrong. Wassel for all the points above, but he can't catch every single set wave. How many others were towing? And the lid dropped in, not only dropped in but blew it too. I fully relate to the frustration that bought him to that decision, but the unwritten rule was broken and he wiped out. No gain for anyone.

It's a pissing contest that will get ugly. It's not an isolated incident and not just happening in Tahiti. It's getting worse the world over.
