Just looking at a series of photos on The Guardian about overpopulation and overconsumption. Came across this dude getting shacked by rubbish (and a fair bit of seaweed). Maybe the pic is well known but it's the first time I've seen it. Great image.

Not sure how to link pictures the way you guys do, sorry.

Whenever I walk off a beach I always pick up some rubbish. No big deal many do it but I'm amazed at numbers of surfers who are blind to the rubbish on their local.

@stu /ben perhaps a story on the good work some of those voluntary groups do like clean coast collective would be good. Lots of groups here in Australia and world wide do similar work.

Only way to stay clean is to make the barrel I guess!

Be good if we can make waste plastic valuable so that this stuff represents money. I have heard of technologies converting plastic rubbish to oil, thermopolymerisation or something, so maybe there's hope. Course, using it for oil isn't the greatest thing in the world either, but sea levels that turn Chopes into a crumbly mal wave surely beats getting shacked in plastic!

I think.

Plastic is Dead long live The King
Plasticworld is back even shinier & 1000 x more polluting.
Shacked by Plastic walls everywhere & soon every shop.
In the next few weeks every Super Market / Store will install anti sneeze screens.
Every grain of salt wrapped in plastic... Yes ! Every shopper wrapped in Cling-film.

Waste sorting & Plastic Recycling Schemes have been binned.
All scream for single use throw in ocean plastic to ward off the virus.
Big oil needs a boost & Corona Quarantine Plastic World just delivered.

Plastic Bag Bans now rescinded ...wear em' on yer head & wave the new Flag!

City bans Surfies & Greenies spreading coronavirus with shitty Hippy Tote Bags.

tbb is just saying the world just changed & the Ocean is the new spew bucket!
Ocean Defenders need to start all over again with a 10 fold army...All say Aye!

What about laying the plastic in surfboards? Makes it stronger than normal surfboards
We did an article here with Stu

Never Waste a good Waste Crisis

Not only tbb had trouble getting Waste data...all other reports are lighter than this
This is an abysmal data Hub for 2nd biggest Crisis of our, sue me!

Lockdowns halted Recycle Counts > Private Contractors won't share Data
World absolves itself from accounting for world's biggest waste pile
Bigger Waste Pits + increased incineration + Medi Waste washing ashore.

Lockdowns resulted in 50% increase in household Rats.

Strict Lockdowns Stage 4-5 produce 30%-70% Less Waste.
Oddly affording better resourcing for increased Med Waste

Stage 1-3 lockdowns spread 50% more packaging & Domestic waste
Oddly have little time for addressing growing Med Waste Crisis (System Collapses)

40% Lockdown Packaging > (Amazon) Buy > Plastics / Extra Grocery Wrap
20% Takeaway Cardboard
40% Plastic Waste (WHO) Use > Masks / Glove / Goggles / Sanitiser Bottles

50% ICU deaths are due to bacteria from contaminated Plastics
Med Waste Comparison: (Corona Bed 2.5-2.8kg waste (vs) Birth 5kg waste)

(Odd Fact) Coronavirus survives longest on Plastic (4 days) & Masks (7 days)
Covid Ban on safer reusable Cloth Bags (2 days) + Stainless Cups (2-3 days)
Recycling / Plant - reductions + Shutdowns > Fewer Pickers.

Food Waste Doubled : Milk / Eggs / Packaged Banana-Tomatoes-Lettuce

Australia / NZ
+10% April > 20% July = Xmas Volume (Plastic Waste Exporters - 1 Vic / 2 Qld)
Fly Tipping - GC +20% / Parramatta +20% / Sydney 35 >75% / Melbourne+70%
Med Waste (Toxic Plastics) - Vic Stage 4 (100t > 500t in 2 weeks)

Thailand +Plastic 5,000 >6,300t/day / Bangkok +Plastic 2,115 > 3,400t/day
Singapore- Takeaway + Online Waste x 2
Bangladesh-Med Waste 2kg /Covid bed / Mumbai x 2 or up (100%) Piling up!

60 Day - Asian Med waste total
Manila 12,750t/ Jakarta 12,600t/ Bangkok 9,600t/ Hanoi 9,600t/ K'lumpur 9,240t

Italy - Med Waste 300,000t approx for Covid 2020 (Comm less 10%> 500,000t)
Germany- (Domestic) +15
France - Fly tipping +40-50% -7,000t / Paris - April 180t > May199t > June304t
