Trans Surfers in Competitive Surfing

FINA’s recent ban of trans athletes got me thinking about whether the WSL would ever do the same. Would it be fair and ethical to allow trans surfers to compete against women?

Has anyone else been absolutely bombarded with this content of late? Can't look anywhere without some trash news site or commentator bringing this red hot topic up. Some has been with their 'refreshing' take on it.

The way it's reported and commented on, you'd imagine that there's a stampede of athletic men just waiting for the decisions to land, assuming that they'd gladly make a life changing decision just to win in the opposing gender's league.

Bring it on I say, females surf way better anyway, style wise. Particularly with long boarding. Sure men can throw airs but that just gets boring.

Ugh, sometimes sport just pisses me off.

Thankfully, surfing, for the most part is not a sport.

“Would it be fair and ethical to allow trans surfers to compete against women?”

Who am I to judge?

Hypothetical. Gabriel Medina goes onto win this years mens WT. During the off season he announces to the world (via Instagram of course) that he now identifies as a trans gender woman (Sally Medina) & expresses her desire to compete in the women's CT beginning next season. Sally Medina gets the all clear from the various governing bodies, having ticked all the appropriate boxes. Sally Medina then goes on to compete for another 10 years within the Women's CT, winning 10 consecutive WTs. Absolute stuff of legends.

Would that be fair & ethical?

Who am I to judge?

Please Burleigh, you're so far gone down the algorithmic rabbit hole path, you're stuck in a loop which compulsively forces you to post in the 'you know what' topic on this forum day in, day out.

I like to peruse all ends of the spectrum on most topics - my digital foot print is an absolute mess.

It's a question that will probably be put to the WSL in the very near future.
There was a trans surfer who recently won a couple of womens longboard events in the W.A State Championships and mentions putting it the wozzle formally.

Personally , I don't think it's fair but I reckon the women should have the biggest say in this.

surely if the inner you is yearning that much with need to live as a woman you could forgo the 'need' to participate in high level competitive sports?

sorry, it is one or the other

it takes a special kind of personality to dominate in womans sport like above with that background and not feel at least slightly guilty / out of place

that swimmer in the US brought all this to a head, and thankfully so... the current / former thinking / rules just are not fair to biological women and all that they have worked towards, in so many ways...

Rabbits - Sally Medina's statistics would be insignificant if Kelly decided to become Kellie Slater.

Nailed it. Of course it’s not fair.
