The question I often wonder is, what is all this growth for?
Population growth as we know it exists to prop up GDP - as I've said before we'd have been in a recession multiple times over the past few decades without high levels of population growth.
But at the same time, if wealth inequality, environmental degradation, climate change, spiralling energy costs and insecure employment is what we get for holding up GDP as a measure of wealth and progress, then what's the point?
Why are we supporting this neoliberal wet dream of a ponzi scheme driven by the fantasy of infinite growth?
By some measures, taking into account income inequality, CO2 emissions, water pollution and loss of biodiversity as negatives and the quality of education, the value of consumer goods lasting longer, and so on as positives, genuine progress peaked 40 years ago and it's all been smoke and mirrors ever since.
But here we are, backed into a corner by a bunch of rancid racist scumbags who have rendered us terrified to talk about such a fundamental issue.
And again, those that stand to exploit and gain from this whole economic structure are laughing there heads off.
If I was paranoid I might even suggest that these sub-human neo-nazi pricks are a false flag, a plant by pro-business neoliberal lobby groups to shut down any discussion even as a large majority are genuinely concerned about a "big Australia".

But it appears few bothered to take any notice and from 2013 to 2019, LNP governments did not even have a dedicated Minister for Housing.
Infrastructure planning needs a lead time of at least a decade. The trend for increasing immigration started around 2000, but no one paid any real attention to the infrastructure needed to cope with an increasing population. And now when the States are busy playing catch-up they are condemned for spending too much money.
It’s all too easy to point the finger at the current government, but the issue goes back over 20 years.
And as he points out the lack of a cohesive and progressive plan supported by both sides has just opened the door to all the agitating shit stirrers.
It's time people like Joyce, Canavan, Antic, Hanson, Roberts etc were all put in their place. They serve no useful purpose and are only an obstruction on the path to a healthy and prosperous future for all of us.

@Satman, I saw a plackard saying that they were marching to defend Australia's culture of tolerance, dignity and stoicism and our tradition of deep engagement with complex issues and our calm and moderate temperament, even while experiencing deep personal frustrations.
It was a rather large plackard, but I was 100% behind those holding it.
