Schiffer actually has TWO full-time professional Public Relations publicists working on the promotion - one for USA/CAN/MEX and one for the Rest of the World.
They entrusted me with Australia /NZ as they said it wasn't very important in the scheme of things and the posh UK lady said those semi-feral savages whom are descended from convicts can't read anyway.
I explained that NZ (and South Australia) were "colonies of free settlement" and not convicts, but she didn't seem interested.
The Nile seems like they have a good full-Aussie non-Amazon, fuck Jeff Bezos programme, so go ahead and place your preorders with them - cheers, mates!
We're all mates here, correct?

Can you go elsewhere with your book peddling and bullshit trips please John?
This is a book review / discussion forum , not a flea-market.
Are you a subscriber or is this just free marketing? Seriously, buy an ad. Give the swellnet crew some revenue.

That's gold JC.
Can u tell me what the devil wind is at Restaurants.

swellnetters - reach out to the nice seppo ladies below..
let's find this pommy scallywag who has wittingly unleashed the Kalhoun!

I think it would be fun to have s bevvie with JC's posh UK marketing lady.
Savage wit is appreciared.
Whisky sour methinks.

This thread is worthy of publishing all by itself.

If it's not so important then why do you invest so much energy here?
It's like a never-ending infomercial.
Bugger off.

Not sure if the infomercial is having the desired effect.
I was thinking about buying a quality surf book for my BiL for Xmas. He’s a legend.
But I’m not buying JCs book. He comes across as a flog.
What’s more, if I were to wander past a bookshop that had them on display I would probably take a minute to peruse them and place them back in a non-visible spot, perhaps under a couple of property law textbooks or something unlikely to get picked up often.

You want " the search for captain zero ".

Yes, I can - when the wave bends around the reef at Tavarua island, it starts as straight offshore at the takeoff from the SE, the usual wind; and as the wave bends more, the SE starts to blow up the face for the last 30% or so of the wave.
The last 30% or so of the wave at Restaurants starts to move out from the wind shadow of Tavarua Island as well, so the chops get bigger as the wind has more surface to blow over -
Will be interesting to see if they hold the event at Restaurants, would favour the goofy-footers I would think - Yago and Italo.

Nice try, but neither Hanna nor Elizabeth is part of the marketing effort for surfEXPLORE: Discovering New Surfing Locations Worldwide -
Schiffer publishes several hundred titles annually and there are many people working in the marketing department, not just two -

You've done well John, you've beaten a calendar, a "how to wing foil" book and 400 Surfing Facts For Kids.

AndyM wrote:You've done well John, you've beaten a calendar, a "how to wing foil" book and 400 Surfing Facts For Kids.
Yes, a book that costs USD $60 is beating books that cost $11, $15, and $28 dollars - and a Calendar from a wel-known and accomplished AUSTRALIAN Photographer that costs $17.
That IS an accomplishment, regardless if you choose to recognise it or not -
Thanks for all your pre-orders, much appreciated!
Ready to sign up for my marketing course as well?
I can teach you how to sell black cats to witches or beer to Australians -

Have you been ordering copies of your own book again John?

tubeshooter wrote:Have you been ordering copies of your own book again John?
No - I already have a copy, the only physical copy available worldwide outside of the Publisher's offices as far as I know -
The Number #1 position is thanks to all the good people out there in surf world like the Swellnet constituency, proper mates who have responded so enthusiastically to The Book it is selling at a record pace via pre-orders, without having been released yet!
Thanks for your support, keep those pre-orders coming!

In the words of the great Rodney Rude - “I’d rather fuck a black snake with a festered arsehole” than buy this book.
It’s probably epic but you just come across in all the wrong ways J.C that I’d never part with my hard earned for it.

….& the stranger enquired to the villager :
- “who’s that?! …looks like his head is stuck up his arse!”
And the villager exclaimed:
…”oh dats jung kook, yeh head stuck …no come out, can’t surf”
& that’s how john kook calhoun is remembered to this day
- immortal kook, but boy can he sing ;)

haha, yep. Like I said to him, I buy (good) surf books like nuggets. Only way I'd buy this is if he signed some copies 'With love from the Great Calhoun' through swellnet. And only then if half proceeds went to Lifeline.
(ewww, @teary.. here's the song that can wash that pop kook from the ears..)

That’s Alex from Arctic Monkeys side project yeah @b6?

What are you going to do with all the millions from the sales ? Maybe a statue of yourself at Singapore airport ? You said earlier you have no idea what country is buying the book yet you are trying to convince yourself that it’s the punters from swellnet , Along with your how to do marketing 101 what’s also on the horizon ? How to win friends and influence people ? Sounds like an original book idea , go showbag .

yeh, @Moonah, Alex Turner and Miles Kane ^
much prefer them to Arctic Monkeys, very tasty stuff!
(I read somewhere that 'Standing Next to Me' was inspired by
George Harrison's, Pattie Boyd's and Eric Clapton's love-triangle)

So many questions - maybe Stu or Steve needs to do a proper interview.
"Selling Black Cats to Witches" can be the title - catchy, huh?
I should prepare Tubeshooter, the original poster a big bowl of words, so he can eat them -
Thanks again for your pre-orders!
Surfers are the BEST!

..is that a 'no' on the 'Calhoun' signed copies for charity?

hahaha.
Looks like I struck a nerve with the black cat thing.

Fark I got a good laugh out of that , hadn’t heard that one before .

It's a classic line from Only Fools and Horses.

Hey gang, I've recently gotten into surfing and I am looking to find a good book or two that will introduce me to this world a little better.
It doesn't really matter what genre it is, I'm just keen for any insight into the beautiful and often mystical world of surfing.
Cheers!
