Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday October 13)

Best Days: South magnets tomorrow afternoon

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Weak, NE windswell for tomorrow AM, easing with strong NW winds
  • Small, inconsistent S'ly groundswell for the PM, easing Fri
  • S/SW tending S/SE winds Fri AM, NE into the PM

Recap

A good though inconsistent pulse of S'ly groundswell filled in yesterday with selected magnets offering the best waves, fading in size through today.

This week and weekend (Oct 14 - 17)

With yesterday's S'ly groundswell on the way out, we look at a weak, small 2ft of north-east windswell tomorrow morning thanks to a disjointed fetch of N/NE winds off the coast this afternoon and evening.

This swell will fade through the day, and there should be a better hint of new S'ly groundswell across the south magnets into the afternoon. This has been generated by a secondary, smaller, tighter polar low firing up behind the system linked to yesterday's swell. Slow 2-3ft sets might be seen across south magnets through the afternoon, easing Friday.

Local winds tomorrow will strengthen from the NW, favouring northern ends of beaches, with a shallow S/SW-S/SE change on Friday morning, tending back NE into the afternoon.

Unfortunately there's nothing major on the cards for the rest of the period besides a weak S'ly windswell with a trough next Tuesday/Wednesday. More on this Friday.
