Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 8th November)

Best Days: Dawn Thursday south magnets, Friday south magnets and Saturday morning, later next week

Recap

Poor winds and a building S'ly swell yesterday, with much cleaner conditions this morning and great waves across spots exposed to the south.

This week and weekend (Nov 9 - 12)

Today's S'ly swell should be easing this afternoon and will bottom out through tomorrow, leaving fading 2ft sets at south magnets through the morning.

Winds will unfortunately swing from an early W'ly around to the S/SE through the morning, so aim for the dawnie.

Into Friday our secondary strong pulse of S'ly swell for the week is due.

This is currently being generated by a strong polar front that's currently south-west of the state.

A great fetch of W/SW gales are being generated in our southern swell window and we should see this front project a little east-northeast through our swell window over the coming day or so.

A good S'ly groundswell will be generated, peaking Friday morning and coming in at 3-4ft across south facing beaches, smaller elsewhere and then easing through the day.

Saturday will be smaller with fading sets from the 2ft range.

Winds on Friday morning look good with a light offshore, giving into NE sea breezes, and then N/NW tending N/NE winds Saturday.

As touched on last update, we're looking at persistent levels of N/NE windswell through next week, though the latest updates have increased the potential for our region.

A strong high stalling in the Tasman Sea will be squeezed on its western flank by an approaching trough across the Bight, producing small levels of N/NE windswell.

But of greater importance is a deepening trough and possible tropical low across the highs northern flank, directing a great fetch of strengthening E/NE winds down towards us.

This would generate some larger NE groundswell for late week/next weekend, but more on this Friday.
