Treaty

Without dispute , the single most hurtful act in the short history of our nation has been the dispossession of the indigenous Australians from the sovereignty of their homeland.

The continued deterioration of the General standard of living of the original inhabitants of our country cannot be ignored or abrogated .

Aboriginal Australians are calling for a treaty. What that treaty may encompass , I can only speculate.

What would you as a fellow Australian , consider a fair and equitable result of any such treaty ?

As a native born Australian myself that knows no other homeland and - to maybe romanticise the point - as someone that was born to the cry of the currawong and the laughter of the kookaburra, how can I reconcile my desire to appease the needs of the descendants of the First Nations peoples without conceding the fact that I also , am nothing if not as Australian as anyone else ?

Where does satisfaction lie with a treaty ?

A sovereign state within our borders ? If so, where ?

Who would be willing to vacate their home for a political body representative of the First Nation ancestors ? A political body constituent of people's that are often times as European as Indigenous by blood . Who determines whether anyone is pure Australian enough to qualify for any possible racial segregation ?

What other possible outcomes could result from a treaty ?

Would such a treaty be relevant in this new age of globalisation and the recognition of race as analogous branches of the same tree ? Will the discounting of racialism in pursuit of unified humanity render any such race based division as puerile ?

Welcome back Shatner.

Yeah I get that youre not into me , but your 2000 words didn't point to one reason why you can point the klansman bone at me . Something from the thread that backs this up ? Maybe reread both of our last posts and explain what it is your talking about ?

PS - How was the break ? You sound so happy .

Sorry if your life is so mundane that you'd think stories of surfing in Bali are outrageous and beyond belief. Where'd you go for your break ?

PPS - you didn't like my post either Guysmiley ? What was in it that you found so appalling ? Genuine question . Maybe try and let me know without rancour , piss take or glib comment with no substance and I'll understand how I could come across as so ignorant and hateful if that's what you believe.

Gaz, there is also evidence that they weren't all nomadic. Some lived in fixed dwellings and large villages that were located next to their agricultural areas. "Dark Emu: Black seeds agriculture or accident?" by Bruce Pascoe. It's written in a text book style and is a bit dry to read, but it contains some very interesting info on their farming practices.

Ah blowin, like one of my farts that remind me of things I shouldn't have eaten. Let's open up the windows and breathe in what we can be not what we could have been. Relatively in the physical realm dictates that so called primitive cultures exist as does technical cultures. All definitions are valid. Hence, u. SD, Herc, shatner, zen, nick, guy, indo, stu, uplift, oh hang on, just joking, for fcuks sake, just surf, and be thankful. Life is supposed to be a contextual field of contrasts to allow you to define yourself. Don't feel threatened, the answer my friend is just blowin in the wind

Another huge misconception about Traditional Indigenous Australians, again, a 'good 'ol uncle whitey standby, is that they could literally extract food and water from a salt lake. Again, that notion meant we got all the prime real estate with a clear conscience, which Traditional Indigenous Australians had so carefully nurtured, and maintained, 'farmed' if you like, so that it really was a land of plenty. We forced them out to all the unlivable bits. Stole all their most sacred spots. Matthew Flinders diaries are an interesting read. So different to now. There were huge stands of red gums even in the centre of Elliston. I saw photos an old lady I cared for in the hospital had, of them being cut down. When they were turned into a race track for the first cars. And quickly became a swamp. An advanced one though.

Not so cut and dried stuie.

'You go hard on TB, but if you want to live in an echo chamber of far left voices, well that's your prerogative. Me, I'd rather engage in the rhetorical parry and thrust that forms the core of many conversations on here. Surprisingly, I value TB's opinion, even if rarely agree.'

Interesting. But. There's people like Ivan Milat mingling about, that as you parry, thrust (or twin for that matter), have an insane agenda. You are wasting your time there, unless picnics are your thing. Likewise if thinking of discussing drugs and the truth with our greatest hero, Lance Armstrong. Mind you, plenty more where they came from. Or discussing racism, equality and treaties with the head of the klu klux clan. Or work, wages and inequality with the queen and phil. Might as well discuss it with their highly advanced corgis. Or discussing fitness with professional rotated cuff injurers. Or blax with guys that surfed it but didn't. Twice even. All this stuff is actually possible on the internet. Actually.

Reading a book, and comprehending and understanding a book are worlds apart. Some won't get it. Will see what's not even there. Simple facts.

Exams are great. But not as great as the net.

Eggs will kill you. I ate over 20 a day for years and years, still eat at least few dozen a week. On the internet even that could, well most probably will, cause swillnut...

Traditional Indigenous Australian Cultures. 60,000 years of continual, unbroken Cultures. Recognised fact. Where else has that been achieved in human history? Its not called the collapse of the roman/egyptian/greek/endless list civilisation for nothing! Advanced collapses? Collapse Australia fair!!

'I bilt a faaarkin super advanced house aye!'

'Where is it?'

'It collapsed, its a farkin bewdy but aye!'

'Yeh, yeh, well faaark orf idiut, oo farkin gives a shit if yores larstud fa 60 fousand.... ya faarki... dumb farkin...'

'Want something to eat?'

'Sure. Here grab this, let's sit under these trees.'

'Want something to eat?'

'Na can't aye, gotta go back to work... all week. Working shifts too.'

'Why?'

'I'm advanced. So then I can afford to get something to eat.'

When your whole life relies on this blownit, is totally, utterly supported by it, when this gives you pleasure, do you class it as 'advanced', like good 'ol uncle phil, and aunty liz?

'created by the folks sitting in a chair , facing a computer under flouro lights and performing tasks that don't interest them, for people they resent , for upwards of 8 hours a day ?

5 days a week.

49 weeks of the year.

Who have fallen into nasty habits.'),'

You never did get around to this either blown, although, I understand why. Always have.

'as i approached my car a smiling mother said to her young son "look at that mans face honey! " , i stared at her and tried to fathom what type of person would be so insensitive to anothers situation. Then i told her to "shut the fuck up , mole,"'

'I can't say i moved on and put this bullshit behind me so easily. The fact that i'm still talking about it now reveals the truth.
In fact i went into a fair spiral of hatred towards my fellow man and society in general following this little episode. I pretty much bailed on humanity till the holidays ended. Then i would cruise the short streets of 1972 with my fish killing baton at hand only half deluding myself that i was'nt looking for Loud Mouth, the man that pretty much single handedly robbed me of my love of the human race.
Of course i got over it. But it took me a whole lap of this awesome land to come to grips with the act of a single fuckwit. And that was a few years ago.
The lesson i've learnt ? Don't humour some clown that wants to bring you down to their bitter level or, as a wise fella has told me since- Never get into a mud slinging match with a pig cause you both end up covered in shit- only the pig likes it.

So again comparing the reaction to the above dribbling fiasco, to how we would feel if subjected to the situation Indigenous Australians are in, why would we expect Indigenous Australians to just move on, and want to continue to smear themselves in good 'ol uncle whitey's parroted porky pies, the racist indo shit, and maggot's farts?

Sorry, here's some actually really marvelous advanced stuff. True!

'I tried to kill a guy today. Punched the living fuck out of him. Only his cuntface mole saved him. He was hogging the squat rack.'

Makes your hair stand on end hey!

Woops, left out some brilliant, marvelous stuff!

The sun was teasing, playing with the window, gently tip toeing around the room, as grandpa Walton felt its warm, loving embrace speak to him... wake up, wake up grandpa Walton.

It wasn't even a decent squat rack... it was fucked and collapsed... in an advanced way,,,

Well, it is clear that there is a common general agreement re the Treaty and in fact, the plight of the out indigenous. It is also clear that many just wish to throw out platitudes, compliments, praise to each other, as that is really what stirs their hearts. It's not the facts, it's not the true plight of the bush indigenous, it's not what the Constitution states or does not state. It's certainly not what the impact of Mabo was. It's certainly not how human migration and evolution has happened of millenniums. It's the ego, it's to see what 'compliment' or platitude one can throw out at some one.
I am sure Stu and Ben are attempting 'robust' discussion. Well, it ain't there really.

Maybe I should rephrase the initial question so there can be no misinterpretation.

The blackfellas were here first . They have been utterly compromised by the arrival of colonial England.

A treaty is necessary , but to the present point in time apologies , money and social engineering have had little effect .

If I was a blackfella I'd be seeking some sovereignty . What else is truly going to empower indigenous Australian's ? I very much doubt that a senator or two will make a lick of real world difference. Nor will another committeee, inquiry , show of unity or wording of a constitution , change of the date of Australia Day or a new flag or anthem.

These steps may together help the incremental improvements we are seeing , but real change requires real steps.

As I said , if I was a blackfella I'd be pushing for sovereignty . An Israel style nation state within Australia to create a place where self determination is a reality .

But as a modern Australian that is as Australian as any other I am reticent to see any segregation of our nation based on racial grounds .

Where does that leave a solution ?

Great, are we back on track.
First thing is what is a Treaty or more importantly what does it actually entail, what does it mean to each and every Aus. For example the Mabo decision had to be defined on exactly what 'ownership' meant - for obvious reasons. Sovereignty is there to a degree (strong degree) in Arnhem Land and other areas. But there are issues in this and I just see this being an option - borders (?), economy, infrastructure, language, laws.
I have not heard soverignty being touted by the key point elders.
As Bill Leak, Forrest have suggested we are currently 'killing them with kindness'.
But it would be true that their culture and living in a sovereign solution would certainly help. After seeing what they are doing in the bush, they are now pushing their way with respect to education and it is having positive results.

as an extension to the first paragraph of your comment TB; sovereignty would need to be defined in the context of a treaty. dictionary or implied historical definition of the word in the legal sense of the term simply cannot exist in modern australia. our govt would never provide that, it creates many issues like you identify TB, and so people shouldnt be hung up on the word. the concept of an israel is a bad example blowin, not to mention that israel exists by force, not by "partnership" which is what I see as sought here in australia.

Great. Back on track!

Fuck off. You dicks are serious?

Funny, he went a bit wonky after banging his head. Next...

Twiggy is a cunt. Cares about the 'blackfellas' about as far as he can screw 'em for more cash. Always about the cash for that prick and his 'mob'.

Speaking of which, gotta love this gem:

So good Blowhard, you mention it twice.

"If I was a blackfella, deedle deddle deddle dumb"

Heads up, dickhead, you ain't. Wild Turkey posted what actual 'blackfellas' have said and written regarding this 'treaty'.

"We call for the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution.

Makarrata is the culmination of our agenda: the coming together after a struggle. It captures
our aspirations for a fair and truthful relationship with the people of Australia and a better
future for our children based on justice and self-determination.

We seek a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making between
governments and First Nations and truth-telling about our history.

In 1967 we were counted, in 2017 we seek to be heard."

THEY SEEK TO BE HEARD. THEY. THEM.

"But as a modern Australian that is as Australian as any other I am reticent to see any segregation of our nation based on racial grounds ."

That's you, maaate. All you. You and your fellow travellers. Circle-jerk, soggy Sao, whatever you gotta do to ease your fears and pump up your old ignorant honky/shonky Aussie vision.

"As someone that was born to the cry of the currawong and the laughter of the kookaburra"...

Hang on, here you are earlier this month:

"Udo , I've got no idea as to the context of the video , but as someone that very recently punched another person in the face - that fucken sickens me.

The noise as that fella takes the punch , let alone when the bloke hits the ground is brutal shit and I wish that it never happened again to anyone.

Violence is so fucked.

Avoid it."

Jeezus, Tony Barber, call the relevant authorities, we've got a real thug here. Unless it was total bullshit?

As you say,

Sorry Shatner, all I heard was " I don't like Blowin ".

Is that where you think you get the right to claim I'm the white devil suppressing the indigenous ?

Take a breath. I think you need another holiday already .

PS - "We call for the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution.

Its so clear they want a commission to supervise " agreement making ". Any idea what this agreement entails ? I'm obviously too blinded by my hatred of the black man and my need to defend myself if I'm ever physically attacked to understand the detail of what that actually means.

You truly believe a voice in the constitution is going to even partially rectify the attempted destruction of their culture ?

Wait up, wait up. Howzabout how you feel the 'blackfellas' pain, Blowhard? Let me (ha ha) "point the bone"...

"Stu, as much as we've had similar upbringings, don't presume to to know whether I've been oppressed.

I've spent years in the North West as a white piece of shit , according to most locals. I've been verbally and physically abused due to my race. Found plenty of succour within the ranks of my fellow demographic....but isn't that how it works ?

Plenty of discrimination in my global travels. I was fortunate enough to travel the globe for the first quarter century of my life due to my old man's occupation.....so I was privileged right ?

Till I arrived on these foreign shores and realised I was in the minority and treated accordingly, with attendant lack of respect as befits someone that can affford a 10 percent airfare but not the finances to extrapolate myself from the impoliteness of the societies I'd arrived in."

Well, that explains a bit. Nah, a lot. Anger issues. Race issues of all stripes. Got a race, Blowie's got an issue!

The constant posting on here finding "succour within the ranks of my fellow demographic"...within the Swell-nut family.

Yes, find a 'safe space' (Thanks again Soup-Can the seppo for the terminology). A happy, happy place. AUSTRALIA!

"Australia....welcome to the land of multicultarism. If you truly don't believe that you're life has improved with the fractualisation of society due to the dilution of any commonality within society then you're obviously an uneducated yob that is in possession of a pathological fear of change or foreign concepts.

And if you don't get with the program then you'll be alienated and bullied. Denigrated and shamed for any belief that you stand by as true to your heart.

You mean that kind of oppression Stu ?"

Yeah! You really feel the "blackfellas" pain, maaaate. The oppression.

The pain and oppression of the white 'snowflake' (thanks again Soup-Can the seppo for the terminology).

C'mon, sing it boyz, all together now:

cant believe that you've spent hours trawling Swellnet to reply - even after saying I had no life cause I'm on here a lot !!!

Anyway , you've got nothing.

Just cause I've been on the recieving end of racism doesn't make me racist .

And I do believe that promoting difference within society is detrimental to the unity that society requires. Thus my point about not being too big on the idea of a sovereign nation for blackfellas even though I think that's what they truly deserve and need to replenish their culture and happiness ess as a distinct people.

But you can twist that to suit your weird need to paint me as the bad guy.

PS If it's any comfort I'm getting a bit bored here in Australia and wouldn't mind getting away overseas. Then after a while I'll get sick of dealing with foreign cultures and want to return home .Does that make me racist too ?

I don't understand you at all too be honest .

And you don't think that Indigenous deserve better ? Cause if you do then you're in danger of being guilty of EMPATHY too.

I'm not allowed to say that if I was a blackfella I'd be getting all I can ?

Am I allowed to say if I was Australia I would get the fuck out of the Middle East ?

Am I allowed to say that if I was Shane Warne I wouldn't get any more work done on my face ?

You'll have to keep me abreast of the rules.

PPS - I do enjoy a robust discussion on here . Even a flat out argument .

But you're carrying on like a pisshead yelling obscenities at the kebab stand after the pubs shut. Don't think you've made an actual point rather than rubbishing people so far . Is this what you've been working up to for 6 months ?

Actually, here's a fellow commenter's summation:

"I see Blowin as a guy that uses insults here as a form of self therapy. You'll note that his insults are actually about him. It's his form of blood letting. He often posts stories of his own "unpleasant situations", then a week later he tries to denigrite others... Almost a sign of guilt.. He posts all day every day, at all hours, weekdays included, publicly admitting to being stoned off his face, then paranioa kicks in that people have noticed his charade, so he yells "OVER THERE"!!!!!

Last words:

Shame the nasty shit had to come out in this thread. Unlike some I thought it began with good intentions.

Blowin put out the olive branch a couple of times and had it stamped on. Personally I reckon that's poor form.

If you don't like someone's opinion then enlarge the debate by addressing their opinion.

Lastly, SB said that I'm mates with Blowin, I guess he assumes dissenting opinions can only be tolerated if they're mates. That pisses me off. I allow other people to speak and I listen to them, even if I don't agree with them. I've never met Blowin and he isn't a mate anymore than you are.
