Have a Maldives trip the first week of April 2016. Have looked at a number surf forecasts (magic seaweed, wind guru, storm surf) however nothing is consistent and they all report different things. Any one found a decent site to look at or can provide me with a basic forecast. Thanks in advance. Went in July a couple years back, trying my luck in April to hopefully get the lefts.
Smoked a joint. Started thinking about those sus go pro drones that are allways flying around and it got me thinking! You must deffently admit on smaller 1-3 or more chopier days the cams can be a little hard to distinguish. The author of the reports, does he have 20 20 vision or does he go down to the beach and sus it out? Can we please have drone cams? You may even be able to program one to do a certain circuit every so often and then fly back home, iduno im just the spark the idea man not the implicator.
Any of you hectopascal heads got a prediction on the next tropical cyclone to hit the North West or anything between Darwin and the Gasgoyne ?
As a total amateur I'd say that the lack of isobars across the North Eastern Indian says something is going to happen soon, we just need a decent high to push through the south west to make something out of these low pressure troughs .
Knowing how to call wave size correctly once the waves are bigger than you are familiar with . Theres no way of finding out without experience because photos & film make it look so much smaller than it really was . I have been learning my whole life how to make a call on correct Hawaiian size traditional . There are famous stories of everyone thinking Hawaii was the only place to find 25ft surf ( pre todos & mavs ) then they found out for real . Growing up in Margaret river the general call on a big day surf was 12ft and it was cool too say that but it was wrong .
I would like to know how the surf quality is scored out of 10. Is there components for size, banks and conditions or is it just the reporters gestalt. Is the score pitched at the advanced surfer who wants bigger waves? Does swellnet give their reporters guidance on how they should score to provide consistency across sites?
I would also be interested in how the scores average month by month. My impression is that July would be 6/10 and September would be 3/10. Autumn/winter better than spring/summer. Does anyone keep the scores for the preceding months so this could be looked at?
Anyone have any good tips on where to find a decent Maldives forecast? I will be surfing the North Male Atolls from Sept 7-17th. It may be too soon? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Hey all
I will be in Labuan Bajo for this big Indo swell this weekend and wondering if anyone knows where there might be some waves within a few hours drive.
Never been there before and hoping there is something not too far away
Cheers
