It was interesting to see the ASCAT and Windsat passes from TC Cook once it crossed New Caledonia on Tuesday - the recorded winds from the satellites didn’t match what the models had been suggesting, so confidence dropped for the E/NE cyclone swell. However, it still came in as per Monday’s expectations.
The Tasman Low has been restrengthening close to the SW tip of New Zealand’s South Island over the last 36 hours.
Building E/SE groundswell tomorrow, easing Friday with all day offshore winds in selected spots. Smaller Saturday, tiny next week.
Easing surf with offshore winds tomorrow, onshore and poor Friday. Cleaner Saturday with a stronger swell for Sunday. Plenty of action next week.
Building SW swells tomorrow with morning offshores, easing Friday and clean early. Another strong S/SW swell for Saturday and Sunday but with fresher S/SE winds.
Plenty of swell to come this period with good winds as well.
Easing clean SW swell tomorrow, poor and onshore Friday. New W/SW swell for Saturday with light winds through the morning, clean Sunday as a new SW swell builds. Lots of swell for next week but the winds are still moving around.
Weak fading S'ly swell tomorrow, with a good new E/SE swell building Thursday, peaking Friday morning with offshore winds.
Building SW swell tomorrow but with onshore winds, peaking Wednesday with offshores. New swell for later Friday and Saturday, but best Sunday.
While all of this is going on, Tropical Cyclone Cook will have crossed New Caledonia, reentered the lower Coral Sea under a SW track but then recurved to the SE, towards New Zealand. This cyclone looks really impressive with surface winds upwards of 85kts, however there are several limiting factors that will impact surf size for us.
