Recap

A fun pulse of new S/SW groundswell yesterday with offshore winds, easing today with 1-2ft leftovers for the keen and beginners.

This weekend and next week (Jul 23 - 29)

Looking at the weekend ahead and the surf will bottom out tomorrow, becoming tiny to flat with strong N/NE winds.

A new, inconsistent W/SW groundswell is due Sunday, generated mid-week by a distant but strong polar low to the south-west of Western Australia.

This should provide infrequent 1-2ft sets across Clifton with a drop in wind back to moderate out of the N/NE shifting E/NE through the afternoon. With this aim for the morning surf.

The swell will fade Monday with tiny 1ft+ leftovers and moderate N/NE tending strong E/NE winds.

Now, as talked about last week, some inconsistent, distant W'ly groundswell energy is expected across the state from Tuesday, generated by a strong progression of polar fronts and lows up from the Heard Island region, towards Western Australia under the influence of a strong node of the Long Wave Trough.

Due to the distance and northward position of each front, no major size is expected but we should still see a small, infrequent 1ft to possibly 2ft sets on Tuesday, tiny Wednesday ahead of another small swell later week.

Some bigger mid-period energy may be in the mix Friday from the remnants of the second frontal system strengthening south-west of us, but we'll have a closer look at this on Monday.

Winds on Tuesday look N tending NE, with a trough bringing a weak SW change Wednesday, stronger Friday with the frontal system. We'll take a look at this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
