Day 1 of The Perfect Wave Occy surf trip was actually Day 2. The first day consisting of an abandoned crossing of the Mentawai Strait, set back into harbour by oversized seas and wind. Consolation was sought at the bar of the Padang Mercure with the crossing made under heavy weather but on a bigger boat the next morning.

So this was the first day at Aloita Resort. Grinding pipes at Suicides, the closest wave of consequence, six foot high and two foot deep. Much lime was squeezed afterward.
