The result felt pre-destined, that's what the melodramatic pseudo-spiritual souls among us were thinking. The reality was that ol' Wilko peaked early and by making the final, and thereby assuring his qualification to next year's tour, he may have felt like he'd already won. Never a good way to go into a final.

Taj played it straight and workmanlike although he made a priority error near the end and left the door ajar. Unfortunately Wilko slammed it in his own face falling during two crucial waves. Still, he's double qualified for the tour next year which is a win in itself.
