Jack Dekort

Jack Dekort - Best of 2012

You know how the saying goes, 'Christmas seems to get earlier every year'. It's still two months out yet the brochures have begun appearing in the mailbox, baubles and tinsel getting hung at the supermarket and fat blokes in red suits are waving placards by the side of the road announcing Xmas Sales.

Indo Leftovers

Just before Jack Dekort took off for his latest trip (Fiji this time) he posted these shots from his recent trip Indo. "They're just leftovers," he said dismissively. "Sumbawa, Keramas, Ford Archbold styling through an overhead right.."

Leftovers in Indonesia but a square meal for the wave-starved East Coast of Oz.

Lesser Sunda

Traipsing east across Indonesia's Lesser Sunda islands Jack Dekort lucked into a few reefs in full flight. He also contracted a nasty, and as yet undiagnosed, tropical bug.

Here are some of his memories taken before the night sweats began.

Saturation Point

Jack Dekort was on the ground in Bali and saw the lineups reach saturation point with the likes of Rob Machado, Craig Anderson and Ozzie Wright sharing waves with 70 other punters and 20 water photographers.

Canggu Sunset Power Session

On the backside of the swell Jack went for a swim at Canggu as the sun started to set, capturing Sam Rhodes (teal boardshorts) and Levi Torresi in a high performance power session.

Ziggy Alberts: Generation Z

Ziggy Alberts first appeared on our radar as a favoured subject of photographer Jack Dekort. Although a talented and photogenic surfer Ziggy has also got game on land. Read an interview with the young Sunshine Coast surfer here or admire the photos below.

Bukit and Beyond

Sunshine Coast photographer, Jack Dekort, left last week for his annual pilgrimage to Indonesia and he appears to have timed this trip well. An abundance of swell is currently rearing out of the southern Indian Ocean heading toward the island chain. These photos are from Jack's first two days on Bali. Stay tuned for more.

Yesterday Sunshine

Usually you can forget chasing waves on the Sunshine Coast during winter, it's a time to hibernate not hunt. Long, flat spells being the order of the season.

This week, however, the coast awoke and shook its head to a mid-range swell so yesterday Jack Dekort went a'hunting. This is what he found.

A Brief Respite

This session is dedicated to all those office workers trapped a long way from the ocean, breathing recycled air, making small talk around the drink station and watching the clock before they can make their escape hoping there'll be enough light to swim or surf.

The brief respite is brought to you by Jack Dekort, the selfless fellow who thought to photograph his midday escapade and share it with you.

Nothing Beats Rock.

"Good ol' rock. Nothing beats rock!"

After a series of bank busting swells the sand on the Sunshine Coast is currently in a state of disrepair. Wide gutters and deep banks are plaguing the beaches where just weeks ago there were A-frames and rip bowls.

Not to be beaten Ziggy Alberts and Jack Dekort hit up one of the Coast's more inaccessible and robust waves. No banks to bust out here, just a craggy reef and an abundance of wildlife.
