My profession as a surf forecaster involves scouring weather maps day after day, keeping abreast of all the swells occurring across the country. Whilst looking at the weather maps last week I saw a pattern evolving over my home state of South Australia and it instantly got me excited.

A funny thing happened on the way to the chemist... After putting up his East Coast notes last Friday Swellnet forecaster, Craig Brokensha, immediately developed a cough.

Beautiful, lined up swell from the south...check Crisp wind from the west...check On a sunny weekend with people walking poodles along the shoreline, And lycra-clad power walkers patrolling the back blocks...check and check There's some great waves out there, no doubt about that, but you'll have to battle a platoon of eager warriors for a slice of Battlefield Sydney. Salt in the Wound

It's not very long and listening to it may even make you feel better. There's a fellow I know, one of the keenest surfers about, who injured his knee about four weeks back. Like rubbing salt into his own wound he has the job of telling us when the surf is gonna pump while not being able to surf it himself.
