The Surf Film Archive is entering its third year of finding, scanning and restoring Australia and New Zealand's lost surf film footage and we need your help to keep the scanning gears turning.

The deeper we get, the more important we realise this cultural history project is. The film is fading away and it's getting lost or mouldy. The filmmakers are getting older and their children don't know what to do with those rusty old film cans. We have to do this now, before it's too late.

Donate here to keep the Surf Film Archive alive

This year we are stoked that McTavish's are providing a custom-made, hand-shaped Plastic Machine for our raffle. Included in the prize is a Bob Hand-Shaped Experience. You will get a tour of the Factory, a coffee and chat with Bob, and then you'll be invited into Bob's hallowed personal shaping bay where the board will be shaped in front of you! Here's you chance to ask all the questions you ever wanted, and have a direct connection to Australian surfing folklore.

Another reward is our beautifully screen-printed Ben Brown posters in two sizes. You can get them framed or unframed.

If you’re a business, you can become a founding supporter of the archive and logo will feature on the site. We’ll promote your association with Australia’s core surfing history on our social media.

Fantastic project.

My cynical mind read the thumbnail text on the SN home page as "major cultural exploitation".
Need to check my glasses

Randy Rarick of Hawaii is such a big supporter of our work that he bought $1000 dollars worth of raffle tickets. When we thanked him he told us he was hoping he would have an excuse to come visit down under!

Having lived my whole surfing life inside the Thruster era - started surfing in '83 - I often wondered why people fawned over Terry Fitz at J-Bay.

Footage like that makes you realise why.

Sorry Randy, just a bit jerky and jaunty. Or maybe I'm just jealous...

Regardless, $1K in the kicker is a big gesture. Great to see guys like Randy giving back.

I noticed Jolyon and crew are scanning some of Chris Bystrom's work. Keen to see what that is. To date, most of the scans have been from the 60s and 70s, so it'll be good to have something from the 80s.
