Knees and braces

Keep up the strengthening work and you could try a K-tape like rocktape H20 which should stay on for a few days of surfing if applied well.
Here’s a general knee support style of taping. There’s probably other ways you could tape it to add support to your specific injury.

I use that brace for a bucket handle tear in my meniscus (back leg) from last year, while I'm on the waitlist for an arthroscopy.
I was very sceptical but have found that wearing it on days when I'm on my feet helped a lot (ie, weekends with young kids), and in turn meant surfing aggravated it less. I would definitely wear it in the water on a trip. I don't routinely wear it in the water because I can't imagine it being good for the hinge, but I am tempted to wear it in the water.
Otherwise, I've been managing it for a year or so and have found cycling to be the best way to keep it under control. Plenty of stretching, non-weight bearing leg exercises and a bit of foundation training is also helping (I think the latter helped because it seems to target the upper leg muscles.
I hope that's helpful and good luck! It does suck, but mine is pretty bad (apparently) and I've been able to keep surfing for now.

I don't have direct experience with the knee brace but I would think it would help? I dragged quadriceps tendonitis for years so always some issues, especially after 'a good surf' where I caught many waves and pushed my knees through maximum turns (for my abilities). It dragged on and I was constantly going through good/bad phases. What resolved it, in the end, was resting from surfing and strengthening my muscles. And I did/do use the tape like in the above video.
All in all, I recommend the brace as a safety precaution. These injuries can drag on for years and you don't want to keep going through healthy/injured cycles for months to come. Learned this hard lesson with running as well which is notorious for knee injuries.
Having spent the best part of my 52 years on the assumption I was bullet-proof, the ways it keeps catching up with me never cease to amaze.
The latest is a tear in the meniscus cartilage of my left knee which is making my front leg feel a bit more vulnerable than I'd like. I've got the appointments lined up and do a fair bit of leg strengthening work, but with a much-anticipated Noosa trip in March I'm looking to get a surfing knee brace as extra insurance.
Does anyone have much experience with braces and, if so, which ones would you recommend? I'm looking at this one at the moment: https://www.bauerfeind.com.au/collections/knee-braces/products/genutrain....
Many thanks
