Part of SW surf coast is currently closed due to a whale carcass close to shore being identified by the chopper. Not sure if it has now washed up, initial report has as offshore followup reports not clear. But got me thinking about how long this stretch is likely to be closed for. Area was previously closed over winter for a few months when a carcass was on the beach. Given tides, wind current etc the carcass could drift off anywhere. Do the govt departments need to verify that it is no longer in the area? How often do they check this and how? If it is not verified either way do they keep coast closed. Had a look on their website but didn't find an explanation regarding review periods etc. Hell, it was a lot easier when you were none the wiser and the chopper wasn't running up and down the coast . Thoughts, facts etc

Holy bloody Hell !
Gor an eerie feeling swellnet inadvertently unleashed the mother of Whale Wars.

[WARNING] Heavy Whale Story spells beginning of the end for Oz Surfing.

W.A...19 August 2018 Whale Carcass closed the same surf break like...(Forever)
Anyhow by October 11 ...[ BEACH CLOSED ] Sign vanished > instantly replaced.
The removal of [ BEACH CLOSED ] signs is a common thing in W.A
https://www.margaretrivermail.com.au/story/5694724/debate-over-quality-o...

No Swellnetonian would point the bone at fellow W.A surfers.
I'm only saying Oz knows- Backpacker Japs are mad keen Oz Sign Trophy Hunters.

Anyhow that's not the half of it...we're just warming up...
Best to read this twice...
Canal Rocks(End of Summer '19) Beach is still closed due to carcass of (Winter '18)
Canal Rocks(End of Summer '19) Beach is still closed due to carcass of (Winter '18)

Current Whale Carcass in similar spot & will likely remain wedged on rocks also...
Surfers know that means a total Year's shut down of Canal Rocks Surfing.

[SIGN OF THE TIMES] 6mths=Oz record Surf shutdown...extending to over 1 year?

With tonnes more blubber crash landing on your local break...Do the maths Groms.

Surfing W.A is entitled to compo from both WSL & Govt for shutting them down.
Free backyard wavepool for every W.A Grom for starters..FIFO Bali Surf Safaris....

OK ! not weirdly pissed off enough...that's what I thought also...

Same Canal Rocks site is already the focus of W.A Pollies Bun fight.

Greens have waded in - Jan 29/2019 comment on Hot Topic.
[WARNING] Not catch 'n' release the Carcass into the wild but quite the opposite.
Greens MP Dianne Evers: (Oz version) 'No Towies- Carve it up & dump it at the Tip!'

Thanks for location update thermalben.
Been musing on this topic more - so at end of month we have smart drum line at gracetown , I have my shark shield fitted to board and the chopper runs up and down the coast. Will we still need to close beaches, can I argue my case with the missus and get some uncrowded waves? At what point does all this mitigation go too far as I'm far more likely to drown or crash my car than get bitten by shark.
