Surf trip to Bells for a swell...
Whats the cost for yourself and van on the boat ?
Heard the backpackers in town is cheap accomo, like $80 a night for private room, alot cheaper share, and if ya just crashing a night could get it for $30.
Hire car for two days from the airport is about $150 (domestic travel insurance 1 cover - $30 covers hire car and board and laptop etc) and board wise, if swell is 6ft or over I take a 6'8 and it's perfect.
I've had no trouble getting waves at all, and the further you drive the less crowded.
A great experience and well worth it every time!
So looking at that could easily do for under $500.
Do it Danandan.
Great stretch of coast.
Good waves, good people, beautiful scenery.
Come winter and you're more likely to find me North of the wall fighting white walkers than surfing in Vicco though.
I'll second that. It's as good as it gets.
If you're flexible with work, save it for a midweek swell.
Also good to go after extended periods of swells rather than a big swell after a drought.
I managed to luck into a 6ft Winki day in July last year while I was in town and it was maybe 4th or 5th day of big swells and it was very uncrowded. It was one of the coldest weeks of the year, though.
Oh yeh, and above 6ft is much less crowded than that 4-6ft category.
Dandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandandan, just be prepared for disappointment and you might be pleasantly surprised or come over with high hopes and leave underwhelmed.
These photos of the last week's Bells swell have tipped me over the edge. At that size it looks just about perfect to me.
Are there any cheap places nearby? I'm down on the Apple Isle, so I'd be more than likely to come over on the boat and sleep in the van, but sometimes cheap flights are too hard to pass up and the boat costs a bucketload.
What about boards? What's the wave like when it gets above six foot? What's the vibe like in the water? Come on.. convince me this is a good way to spend $500 this winter.
