The women's waiting period starts in a few days, so I thought I'd check out the official forecast to see how they interpret the current systems and what swells may be expected for the comp. This particular gem caught my attention...

"Over the past few days we’ve been monitoring an impressive run of storm activity over the South Indian Ocean. While these systems have been a great distance away from Fiji, much of it 5000+ miles, satellite derived sea heights in excess of 50’ will help clear that hurdle. "

Either they're hoping for swell in the Southern Indian Ocean to pass beneath Oz, swing a left into the Tasman and still be noticeable in Fiji... or "that hurdle" is just a small island called Australia???

Or they realize that the earth is a globe. Goggle great circles. Theoretically its possible for Fiji to receive a swell that forms on the boundary of the Atlantic & indian Ocean. Although a 50ft open ocean swell would end up being about 3ft 12000 miles later.
